In addition to the popup (or, especially, in the case of when using Leaflet Popup Outside), how can a themer most easily style and show "This is the active (last clicked?) marker"? Any options for this wrapper-less png besides latching on to a behavior in custom js? Would it be a useful feature to add to Leaflet?

I've gone ahead and implemented this in my contrib module for lack of better placement or advice. I think it'd be a nice addition to the Leaflet main project js.

I agree, that's pretty off-topic. Fortunately, it's really easy to fire up a new "support request" ticket in this ticket queue. Hopefully someone will see it with more visibility and can get back with you to get a great response.
