This is a known and major Drupal bug. If you go to it in the issue queue you can find many things which might fix it, and currently no certain solution:
https://drupal.org/node/481758

For installing locally you can try Acquia Dev Desktop.

I HATE drupal. The only reason I am using it is because I HAVE to for my job that I will probably get fired from because my employer (who knows nothing about web programming) thinks that I can't get it to work because I am doing something wrong. That's really the only productive thing that I have to add: If you're using drupal, plead with your employer or dev lead to abandon it for something that acutally works.

jjones,

I can understand that you are frustrated, and I can sympathize with your situation. But, you are only making your situation worse.

Almost all of us make our living with Drupal, but everyone participating here is volunteering to help. If you continue to use such language, you will not get any help.

More importantly, you are making a really bad, long-term impression. In your current job, you are being told to use Drupal. If you continue in a career of making websites, you will probably continue to run into it, wether you like it or not.

I have been where you are: irrational, ignorant boss, pressure to complete, extreme frustration with the (apparently) illogical way that Drupal works. I can't speak for the whole community, but I would say that the majority has been through what you are going through at least once.

Fortunately, Drupal is a very relaxed, even forgiving, community. Please make some new posts describing exactly what you are trying to do, and provide code samples. I will try to monitor the forums more closely for the next few days (but I can't promise anything), and maybe others that are reading this can do the same.

You will get through this. With the right attitude, you might make some friends and learn about a lot more than just Drupal. Maybe some day, you will even be sitting around with us after a conference and laughing about this. If that does happen, I will be the first one to buy you a drink.

rolo pretty much says it all. From a webmaster perspective you should know that if you persist in derailing threads to do nothing other than complain and use foul language you're account will be blocked.

everyone gets frustrated but that's not an excuse to abuse the forums or its volunteers. do yourself a favor, take a step back, take a deep breath, and try to post in a way that someone will both want and be able to assist you.

If you're using drupal, plead with your employer or dev lead to abandon it for something that acutally works.

You seem to be mistaking your inability to use Drupal, as Drupal not being able to be used. The fact that many of us create extremely dynamic, powerful websites with Drupal goes to show that Drupal does in fact 'actually work'. It's just that you are having troubles getting it to work yourself.

I agree with Jaypan.

While I agree Drupal isn't the most intuitive platform to use at times, I am surprised that a (seemingly) seasoned web user would post like that here and then expect to receive help from volunteers. :( I hope your problem gets solved, but honestly your approach could use some revision.

One of the reasons my 'inability' remains low, is because, after 3mo of struggling with drupal, I can rarely find a straightforward explanation to a given problem. It almost goes without saying that the answers I DO find are not from official documentation. This brings me to re-iterate my point, which is this: Drupal is powerful, but I wouldn't recommend it to people that are already frustrated, especially when they are most likely to receive help from an irritating jerk that thinks he is literally the smartest person on the planet because he knows web design.

Yeah, Drupal has a steep learning curve. Three months in the Drupal world is not long at all - it took me a good year of working with it almost full time before I felt very comfortable with it.

especially when they are most likely to receive help from an irritating jerk that thinks he is literally the smartest person on the planet because he knows web design.

I *think* you may be referring to me, though I'm not sure because of your comment on knowing web design - I don't know web design. I'm a horrible designer, and do not have a very good design sense. I can code really well though.

I thought the irritating jerk was me!

jjones150 was not the person asking for support in the thread, but someone who has intervened in several threads to say how much she or he hates Drupal. When bile gets so strong it is time to fire the boss (who insists on Drupal) for the sake your health! or at least recommend to the boss a better alternative to Drupal. We do not pick Drupal because it is perfect: we pick it because for many websites there is nothing better out there at any price, and there is no other system on the planet with as much free help (even Wordpress which has far more users).
