Just applied the patch for saving the phone extension https://drupal.org/node/1992300 All working well to save the extension.

When placing the phone field in a view, the phone extension does not display. There does not seem to be options when configuring the field to mange the extension display or the prefix of the extension. These settings do appear when configuring a phone field on a content type though -- so this seems to be something specific to views and this field type.

I had the same problem with Panels and found out a workaround. It should also work for views, since the problem itself lays in the field formatter settings. For whatever reason in the phone_field_formatter_settings_form() function the $instance['settings']['enable_extension'] is always set to false.

I simply commented out 2 if statements which check for this setting in the phone.module file.

The following patch is a workaround, should be reviewed and possibly checked for the reason why this option returns false.

After applying this patch, in the settings menu of panels / views the option to show extensions is shown. You should simply check this option and it should work.
