Related products based on attribute options and How to reference attribute options

I have been able to successfully create a Related product block by the step in https://drupal.org/node/1591948 and display it on my cart page.

However i am faced with another challenge. I want to filter my related products which are view based using the selected attribute OPTIONS that a user has added to the cart.

So i have a list of related product that will show up on the cart page and i want to filter them based on the attribute options that are in the cart.

Step1: First of all i want to know how i can relate a product to ATTRIBUTE OPTIONS. Whether i can create a field in the related product and reference a specific attribute option which i am not sure off since attributes options are not entities.

Problem 1: How i can reference attribute options.

Step2. How to use views to filter the related product based on the attribute option in the cart.
