Signup on Registration Option Closes Signups and Can't Be Undone

If I create an event and enable sign-ups, then sign-up, it works fine. If I then go back and edit that event node to enable "Users can sign up for this event from the user registration form." and save the node edit form, it immediately closes sign-ups. If I then go back and disable "Users can sign up for this event from the user registration form.", I still can't get sign-ups to re-open, no matter what I change in the Signups tab (/signups/admin) or the People > Signup (/admin/people/signup) form.

So, basically sign-ups on user registration breaks normal sign-ups on nodes and it can't be undone once done. This is a pretty major issue since there appears to be no way to disable sign-ups on user registration.

Even if I go to /admin/people/signup and change it to Open from Closed, it saves as Open, but when going to the Signups Tab on the node it's Closed and can't be saved as Open. Something is seriously wrong here in numerous ways.

Anybody have a fix for this? This should be a major deal-breaker for anyone using this module, anyone, since it breaks signup functionality by allowing a user to create a node that disables it's own signup functionality by checking a checkbox to allow signups on the registration form that is an option that can't be disabled.
