In attachment you'll find a patch that makes the cache type (temporary vs permanent) configurable with a radio button.

In my test environment it worked nicely.

I realluy don't like the idea of a cache-setting. At the very least it should be injected in the "performance" form in Drupalś main settings.
But besides that, I prefer to go for the much simpler solution at #231030. Care to look into that?
