Thanks for providing the patch.
But there is one issue with this solution. If someone wants to use ShindigIntegrator with existing website, it will create problem. So could you please provide patch with options whether user wants to install profile fields or not either using some UI or some config parameters.

Since I'm not familiar with drupal module config parameters could you provide me some pointer on how to do that ?
An alternative could be to provide some admin UI, so create the fields *after* installation ?
What do you think ?

This you can do with drupal's Administration panel vary easily.
1. Just enable profile module
2. Go to admin pane>User management >Profile
3. you will see a screen like attached image, here you can create n number of fields in user profile with different types
