The taxonomy_autocomplete widget has 'size' and 'autocomplete_path' settings, but does not implement hook_field_widget_settings_form() to give them a UI.

Patch attached giving the taxonomy autocomplete a nice new fancy UI.

  • I'm not too sure we should actually expose the taxonomy autocomplete path setting to the users. It seems like an "expert" setting which the majority of user will never want to change. It's included in the patch but we can rip it out if necessary
  • The autocomplete path is validated using drupal_valid_path(). The validation message The path 'path-that-does-not-exist' is either invalid or you do not have access to it. is copied from menu.admin.inc.

Hm, agreed, taxonomy_path is probably best left out as an API-only setting without a UI. Will confuse the hell out of 99.9% users.

Thank you for sharing your idea for improving Drupal.

We are working to decide if this proposal meets the Criteria for evaluating proposed changes. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or there is no community support. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.

This is actually outdated as Taxonomy fields are not Entity Reference fields under the hood. Thanks!
