We made it not look simliar for there to be visual distinction between the most likely and least likely action in conformation screens - this is by design.

Yes I understand but it would have been nicer if there was an option for the developer to choose between a button and a link. I am working on a production site. The 'Cancel' link doesn't get close to our theme any way near. I have two doubts. Is this patch safe enough to apply it on a production site? I can see that it has failed tests conducted so far but the number of passes was considerably higher than the number of failures. My Drupal version is 6.16. Can I apply the above patch ( says its for D7) to my Drupal 6.16 version?

You can't apply the patch to your production site, and it would also be very bad practice since hacking core is not recommended. I am sorry it doesn't work for your site, but we can't provide options for every single edge case.
