jaydub commentedThe text in the autocomplete field disappears whenever I enter the text field as I imagine it was intended. It sounds to me like you have an issue with the JS in your context. If you were to switch to a default theme such as Garland and try again can you verify that this still happens to you?

vegantriathleteI have been having repeated issues with permissions on this customer's servers. You may be right about it being an issue with the JS. I will try this on my development platform and see if I still have the issue.
Could you point me to a reference (Drupal or otherwise) that tells me how I should have permissions set for the various parts of the directory structure (directories as well as objects)? I want to make sure that they are only as "open" as they need to be. I'm not sure how I need to set the three octals so that the site will function without creating security vulnerabilities.
vegantriathleteI have tested this on my development environment. It does clear the text when you put focus on the field. So, it must be an issue with permissions on the client's server.
vegantriathleteI have confirmed that this was a permissions problem on the client's server. I have set everything in sites/all/modules to 755 and it works fine now.

jenlamptonIn the 7.x branch the text does not disappear when the focus changes to the textfield.

amateescu commentedThe update to Drupal 7 behaviors was treated in #994996: Update javascript to Drupal 7. Sadly, the bits that would've fixed this issue were not commited, so i posted a follow-up there and i'm closing this one as a duplicate.
