Go to admin/help.

Notice the content shows readable names of modules as topics.

But the management menu shows the module machine names.

Simple to fix.

However, this puts a call to system_rebuild_module_data() in hook_menu(), which I imagine is not cheap.

Is there another way to get module human names? Why isn't system_rebuild_module_data() caching its results?

I don't see any machine names in the management menu. I believe this was fixed at some point.

Please reopen this issue if someone is still able to duplicate the problem.
