We provide [current-user:] token type to go along with the [user:] token type. Currently our [date:] tokens actually mean "The current date" while the description simply says "Tokens related to times and dates." which is ambiguous. It is a small bug fix to add a [current-date:] token type and make the [date:] tokens require input and not just work with the current date.

Forgot 'type' => 'date' in the info declaration which only affects things like the token UI tree in token for contrib. This one should be good to go.

This is now too late for D7 since it would be changing and making people's existing tokens not work.

Missed 'type' => 'date' on the definition of the current-date token.

jenlampton’s picture

Can a token type have a type?

  $types['current-date'] = array(
    'name' => t('Current date'),
    'description' => t('Tokens related to the current time and date.'),
    'type' => 'date',
  );

when the current date tokens are generated, do we have to provide data:

$replacements += token_generate('date', $tokens, array('date' => REQUEST_TIME), $options);

or could we just allow them to grab the request time:

$replacements += token_generate('current-date', $tokens, array(), $options);

Issue summary: View changes

There should be a fallback to REQUEST_TIME if no data was provided, otherwise this would break current behavior.

[Edit] Sorry, I overlooked that this is about drupal 8. But anyway the [date] token is currently the only way to pass a date value and have a fallback, if no value was provided. I use this to add a date in file paths. In migration I use the node create date but for new content (by node form) I want to use the REQUEST_TIME.

Thank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.

We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.

Thanks!

This is still technically an issue, although token has provided a current-date token for ages.

I'm not 100% sure it's worth fixing, especially the part about requiring a date for date tokens as that's a BC break and even with BC layers would be quite hard to deal with as tokens tend to be used all over the place in config and content.

Version: 11.x-dev » main

Drupal core is now using the main branch as the primary development branch. New developments and disruptive changes should now be targeted to the main branch.
