If you uncheck the Enable private messages in the edit user page, click save, the checkbox is still checked.

Follow up to this problem. Private messages actually ARE disabled, but the checkbox still says they are enabled after disabling.

Nice catch, I introduced this bug when I backported some code from the D7 version.

The patch should fix it and also comes with a test to verify that it doesn't happen again.
