Michael E. Meyers, the Managing Director at Tag1 Consulting, has over 20 years of experience running startups and managing software and product development teams
Most recently, Michael served on the leadership team at Acquia as the VP of Developer Relations, where he was responsible for developing the business plan and go-to-market strategy for developer products including a CI/CD platform, IDE, and jumpstart framework. Michael also created and managed the execution of Acquia's developer marketing and developer relations teams and programs. During his tenure, Acquia grew from 80 to 800 employees, hundreds to thousands of clients & partners, and over 125mm in revenue.
Prior to joining Acquia, Michael was the co-founder and CTO of NowPublic.com, which pioneered citizen journalism, user-generated content, and crowd sourcing. Michael built NowPublic from a concept into a top 500 website, and led the company through a successful and profitable acquisition. As CTO of The Clarity Digital Group, which acquired NowPublic, Michael rebuilt Examiner.com from the ground up, dramatically cutting operating costs, accelerating development cycles, and making it significantly easier for staff and users to create and manage content. The new tools & systems led to explosive growth, with Examiner.com becoming a Quantified Top 50 North America Internet Property and a leading source of news & information online.
Prior to starting NowPublic, Michael was as a founding team member of Afternic.com, which formalized the secondary market for Internet domain names. Michael led development efforts from the company’s launch through its acquisition and integration into Register.com. At Register.com, a top 100 site, Michael led web development across all business units and subsidiaries for the second-largest domain name registrar in the world.
I started NowPublic.com in 2004, the first venture backed Drupal based startup company and a top 500 website, which I sold to Examiner.com in 2009. With an amazing team of leading Drupal experts, I re-built Examiner.com from the ground up launching one of the first Drupal 7 sites (6 months before the official D7 release) and the first top 100 Drupal website on the Internet (a quantified top 70 site). NowPublic and Examiner have made significant contributions to Drupal 4.5, 5, 6, and 7 ranging from contributed modules to major core changes, the automated QA infrastructure, and more.
I've organized or helped organize many Drupal events, and have been a featured speaker or keynote at countless Drupal Meetups, Drupal Camps, and DrupalCons around the globe giving talks on topics ranging from the benefits of early adoption and embracing Drupal 8, how to leverage open source projects and participate in open source communities to grow your company and improve your career, to various Drupal business cases and success stories.
I have been an Advisor to the Board of the Drupal Association since 2008 and served as the Global Chair of the E-Commerce, and Business and Strategy Sessions for DrupalCon Denver.
