mandreato commentedSubscribing. Very interesting module !
SchwebDesign commentedI would support this- i'm not sure how actively this module is maintained... not to mention the thread "depreciation of Base API - it expires June 1st, 2011" at http://drupal.org/node/1092142 begs for more active maintenance.
In addition, I get lots of inconsistent errors when using this module, such as:
or
Then I'll click to edit the node and save again and I'll get no error like it "fixed itself"
i haven't submitted a support/bug thread for this because the products still show up as expected on Google Merchant Center product listing.
so in summary, i think more development/improvement of this module would be great!! Thanks for offering... hopefully compujohnny will let you in.

SchwebDesign commentedHello, i just wanted to share another reason that i'm very much hoping you're able to jump in to help maintain this module: New Features Being Required by Google summer 2011 (http://drupal.org/node/1116172)
Thanks again for your offer. Have you heard from compujohnny?
jasonabc commentedThis module looks like it is no longer being maintained. Anyone who wants to take over an abandoned project please see here first:
http://drupal.org/node/251466
Anyone willing to take over this module gets my vote - it's one of the more necessary Ubercart ones.
cookiesunshinex commentedI just wanted to point out that there are 2 other projects that also seem to be no longer maintained.
The first drupal.org project is called "Google Base" and is located here -> http://drupal.org/project/googlebase - which seems to be abandoned (see my questions in the issue queue), and I'm not even sure that it works with Ubercart.
Then there is the contribution called "Google Base RSS Feed, 2.3.1" at Ubercart.org here -> http://www.ubercart.org/contrib/11593
It also seems abandoned. I'm using the Ubercart.org contrib, but the problem is that it doesn't show up in the Admin/Available Updates listing and not hosted on drupal.org, so it can't be updated with Drush.
If someone wants to maintain this module, and/or potentially aggregate all 3 projects and take the best code/features of each, you get my vote!
I've posted questions in the googlebase project already and I've posted messages to the bottom of the Ubercart.org contrib so that this duplication of abandoned projects gets noticed by anyone either trying to fix the modules due to the new Google requirements, or just starting out with an Ubercart site and wanting to add Google base support.

jasonabc commentedUsers looking for some sort of Google Products integration with Ubercart should give this a look in the meantime:
http://www.ubercart.org/project/uc_website_xml
It generates an up-to-date Google-spec XML feed (including the recent 2011 summer updates) of all ubercart products. You can point Base to this feed for inclusion of all products in the feed on Google Product Search.

arpieb commentedUnfortunately I've been pulled in on a few other modules that the maintainers were happy to have help on - and I have some work to finish up the 2.x release on a module I authored (so that project doesn't get flagged as being abandoned!), so I'm not in a position to take this one over right now.
Last I heard from @compujohnny, he had some great stuff in his dev copy that he was committing shortly - back in March - and refused my help, so not sure what happened there...
craigmc commentedHi there--
I am working on a project that needs this module and can contribute the updates back to this module, but need the maintainer to allow contributors. CompuJohnny, you around?

jbrown commentedGoogle Base API no longer works.
I have upgraded this module to work with Google Products API (attached).
I'm available for further paid work on this.
edav commentedHi - I would like to let a programmer test this new module but I'm not sure why it's posted here and not as part of one of the previous modules - http://drupal.org/project/uc_gbase?
will it be maintained/further developed by someone?
Will appreciate some info about that
Thanks
Comment #17
craigmc commentededav, I am working to try to take over as co-maintainer or maintainer of this module so we can incorporate the fixes/changes from jbrown and others into the codebase. Will post as soon as I have made progress on that front. Any others that want to be co-maintainers plz PM me.
Following the instructions on http://drupal.org/node/251466 FYI. Will wait 2 weeks for response from Compujohnny then move on from there.
compujohnny commentedI already done those updates for one of my clients and the module currently works perfectly and also has many other features like bulk product submissions using the batch api and also auto filling of fields from the node
The module currently works with the content api and uses the new http submission and authentication methods
I will commit the code soon to drupal.org
Sorry for any delay

craigmc commentedVery much looking forward to seeing this. Please feel free to upload to the dev branch if there are final errors you are trying to work out. We'd really like to leverage the work you've done on this module, but need to chase down some bugs we have right now. Please consider posting your code sooner rather than later-- the community appreciates your efforts.

rstepanenko commentedHave you heard about http://www.osmoss.com? This is the place to provide funding and support for open-source development. I will donate $50 after someone registers a project for this module and starts some work on (have to see some code committed first).

I too look forward to an updated version of this module that actually works with Google's currently changed requirements.
jasonabc commentedDitto. Any news on an update here??
craigmc commentedI've sent another request to compujohnny with no response. He insisted a month ago that he had something ready to go, but has not yet committed his code to git. At this point, I think the best option is to report this as an abandoned module and request git access. Anyone interested in becoming a co-maintainer and helping update the codebase with me?
nelslynn commentedI wish I knew PHP to help. I can certainly help test any modifications.
Until this mod is ready I've been tweaking this module... adding the required attributes necessary for new Google Merchant format. The uc_website_xml module will produce an xml file you can submit to Google Merchant.

compujohnny: It's been a long time since August 20... Any chance you might soon post the update you said you've already completed?
tr commentedIMO this clearly qualifies as an abandoned project, and as per http://drupal.org/node/251466. There have been no commits at all to this project since the initial check-in. In fact, compujohnny hasn't made any commits to *any* of his projects in more than a year, and has done nothing to deal with the Git migration which happened in February. It's not clear to me that compujohnny knows how to use Git to maintain a project, since he hasn't made any commits, branches, tags or releases, nor has he restructured his repository to move code out of the master branch.
This module performs an important function, so anyone who's willing to step up should move this issue into the webmaster's queue and request to be added as a maintainer.
SteveMushynsky commentedI, for one, certainly agree with the above!
cookiesunshinex commentedAgree with #34.
So many people need this and there are willing participants willing to take over maintainership, that we shouldn't as a community waste that resource.
Nick Wilson commentedProposal
Time for action everyone. Enough waiting around hoping someone will fix this. Here's the plan...
We need three things:
I have 2 kids a home business and no time whatsoever, but I will gladly offer to organise this project unless someone else wants to. I'm away from the 4th to the 14th of Nov. and am completely unreachable. Other than that, I'll do whatever needs to be done to juggle money, testing, feedback etc etc.
If I get enough "Count me ins!" in comment to this, I'll find a service (suggestions welcome) for managing escrow from multiple sources, or it can just go to my paypal and I'll pay the developer directly.
Can you trust me not to make off with the cash? Yes you can. I've been a member here since 2003 and am in pretty good standing.
ACTION REQUIRED
If there's enough interest, I'll submit a more detailed proposal with input from whoever has the inclination and skills to develop this.
PS: I don't know what form this will take yet, but I am strongly in favour of holding the completed module back for some time. I don't want people to hang around and let others pay for it. Comment welcome, of course.
jasonabc commentedCommitted to $50 x 2 if it will get this bloody thing usable asap :-)
hanoiiI am the need for this as well as I might step in to do the job, at least I will try. I haven't really followed all what's been going on with this module, can someone sum it up for me? But my plans is to do something simple to start with. I will follow the idea behind http://www.ubercart.org/project/uc_website_xml but in my opinion that's not currently a 100% working module and the code to contribute to it's a mess, not to mention the interaction in the ubercart forum, I'd rather work through drupal.org.
I will try to create a feed following http://www.google.com/support/merchants/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=18849... so that you can then configure an autmoatic download of this feed.
I am able to allocate the time for this I will post my findings here. I am doing this in part for some of my customers who had showed interests but I don't have a specific commitment on payment, so the bounty proposed here would be appreciated as long as I can deliver something functional enough.
I am going to start with the basics of a module working.
hanoiiExploring a little bit more, I think this can be accomplish with a bit of setup with the use of views, uc_views, views_data_export and maybe views_customfield, and probable with some glue module that would help with some of the specifics. This would make this quite a flexible solution independent from other modules.
mandreato commentedI'm trying to have the same thing by using Views RSS.
There are some issues I'm working on, but hope to have something working the next month.
This would be my first contrib module, so I'll go through it with double checks ;-)
hanoiiI am making very good progress with my approach. I think I might be contributing something towards next week, just want to know who is up for some tests.
I am working on a module that exports on style plugin for views data export as well as a few views fields that are not present at the moment.
One key functionality I am missing and it's needed is the ability to somehow map a site's taxonomy with google's taxonomy, so that's probably my next step, but I am happy with where this is going. Of course this won't be a plain out of the box module. I am planning on including a default views to start with, but as product specifications can become to wide and too specifics, it will be up to each of you to tune up your feed, but being views, you have tons of things that you can do.
One tricky think I had to do so far is to override the default cck multiple field handler, as its output was HTML and I needed something plain. This shouldn't bother any of you but is something I will state on the project module page.
So far, I think the name is going to be uc_views_gpfeed (Google product feed for ubercart and views)
@mandreato it seems that we thought in something similar, I am happy for you to join efforts. I considered views rss but it's a bit too specific, while views data export seems like a more thought module as far as I could tell and it was fairly easy to plugin one style plugin to it. I was planning in using their batch support, but I believe this won't work with google, so we will have to go with the full views processed at once.
hanoiiTo whoever's interested: http://drupal.org/sandbox/hanoii/1353508.
It's not really ready to use, well, some of it is, but you would have to create the views yourself, I will include a default one soon.
mandreato commentedI've initialliy choosen the Views RSS way, because I'm a newbie on PHP and it offered a simple extension to views_rss_item_elements_alter for adding feed elements specific to Google Shopping. Moreover, having the power of Views was a bonus for flexibility.
I too was stuck on Google's proprietary taxonomy.
I'll test your module for sure, but you should add some hint on how to install/configure it...
hanoiiProject has been promoted and it's there for whoever is interested to try it out:
http://drupal.org/project/uc_views_gpfeed
Dev version will be there soon, you can try git first if you want to. Stable or beta release will be there soon.
As far as bounties go, if anyone wants to chip in you can contact me directly and I'll give you my paypal email address.
