i just saw the "Preview changes" button on g.d.o and love it. ;) this module is really taking off -- rötzi, you're totally kicking ass!
anyway, i think we definitely need some new official releases for diff.module (as evidenced by http://drupal.org/node/120159 and http://drupal.org/node/110781 for example). the new version is working great, and is a *VAST* improvement. let's get it out there officially. i'm willing to make the tags, create the release nodes, etc, we just need to agree on when/what to include.
as much as "Preview changes" kicks ass in general, there are some lingering questions about it, namely http://drupal.org/node/115411. so, i'm inclined to release a 4.7.x-1.0 and 5.x-1.1 from the source as it was after the initial re-write to the glorious new system, but before http://drupal.org/node/115226 landed. then, once the dust settles on the "Preview changes" stuff, and perhaps the diff table theme/layout fixes (http://drupal.org/node/117591) is done and happy, we do another round of releases. sound good?

moshe weitzman commentedNo way. The official release should be of current HEAD. We are not going back to the dark ages. Thanks for offerring to do the cvs stuff. Sounds good to me.

dwwi'm not talking about the "dark ages" before the re-write (as in, the dark ages of our only official release: 5.x-1.0). i just mean that given there are known problems with the "Preview changes" button, we could consider delaying an official release that includes that functionality until we're happier with it. however, given how evil 5.x-1.0 is relative to the rest of the glorious new goodness, we could ship a round of official releases now that just includes the new stuff (without "Preview changes"), and then in a couple days/weeks once the other issues i linked to are done, we make another round of releases.
but, if you're set on shipping what's at the end of the DRUPAL-5 and DRUPAL-4-7 branches right now as 5.x-1.1 and 4.7.x-1.0 respectively, we can do that, too.
btw, HEAD has nothing to do with this proposal, since presumably we're going to use HEAD for early/regular porting to 6.x core's API...
cheers,

moshe weitzman commentedyeah, i get it now. thanks.
still i'd just as soon use our current tip of DRUPAL-5 for this release. if someone wants to look into existing issues, they are most welcome.

i took the liberty of calling the 4.7.x one "1.1", too, so that the patch-levels would match between the 2 branches from here on out. i'm assuming we're going to support both for a while, and continue to commit new features to both branches. i'm guessing it'll be less confusing this way, instead of having 4.7.x always 1 number behind 5.x...
