Not playing nicely with jquery_update

I've used jquery_update to update my jQuery to 1.1.2, and in doing so, the voting is rendered as radio buttons instead of its ajax powered stars. A quick copy/paste of the JQuery version 5.1 comes with resolves the problem, but reverting back to this version of jQuery causes trouble for my site's customized show/hide areas.
