that's one of the most egregious email spams i've seen-- i would have blocked immediately as well.

has anyone tried to contact the user?

michelle’s picture

Cross-referencing to #1578188: Warned Rahul Chauhan (http://drupal.org/user/383518) re contact form solicitations . One can be marked dupe, I suppose, but I'll leave it up to the active participants which should go. :)

I took all the URLs out of Amazon's comment so we're not doing their SEO spam for them.

Since more detail was provided after the user was unblocked, I re-blocked this user. 4 spam comments and a really nasty contact spam is not okay.

[EDIT: sorry, wrong issue]

Note, however, that this user's new marketplace submission has every service checked: http://drupal.org/node/1393726

Between his marketplace listing and his contact spam, I'm inclined to ban this user.

Agreed with cweagans. And given no followup in months on either this issue or the marketplace issue - blocked/fixed.

Hello,

I am "eyashwant" and I made this new account to POST reply to this. Please delete this current account once this discussion is completed.

I understand its been a while, I just visited again to Post updates to the Group I am in to notify on new event I am organizing for Drupal Users in South India - I am the Founder of Association! and found ID blocked. Sorry for the mishap and I will ensure I will never post any more messages. I usually post from PAID-Services section, but it seems PM via Paid-Services is not invited, so let us not do it anymore.

Please activite this account as it is related to the association and events that I run here for growth of drupal community.

Hello Team & Amazon,

I am assigned for Event Management in Colleges for the Association by the company. I am having trouble with it due to this account blocked which holds admin access to the group and hence management is not able to post my messages to the group. More over, the issue caused won't be repeated again and we would be using this for Group Management Purpose henceforth only. We request this account to be unbanned for the events to continue to happen.

This event is about ''Prototype to Product using Drupal - Innovation 2013"

Looking forward for your support for Drupal Community.

Ramesh.

This is not critical.

to date, accounts are owned by individuals, not organizations (though there is work underway to make provisions for organizational accounts, this certainly predates that).

From all appearances this is an individual's account which has been blocked for spamming. i don't seen any reason to unblock it-- especially since the issue was not addressed at the time it occurred.

So, if by 'group management' you mean a groups.drupal.org group, then I recommend you, or someone else who wants to manage the group, create an issue to formally take over group ownership. I certainly wouldn't want an account with a history of spam being reopened and placed in charge of a group.

ramesh1988’s picture

Hello WorldFallz,

I understand that. Yes, the President is the person who owns that blocked account and who has spent funds for events and contributions now and in future. So he is the person who handles the account.

The issue was not addressed then because he was out of country for a long time.

Yes, managing groups.drupal.org. We cannot take over the group as still the account needs to be managed by the President who pays for everything and who plans for all promotions.

I would just like to clarify the spam issue: The message was only sent to listings in Drupal Service Listings. The issue was, it was sent a little late and hence they reported it as spam. But it was not an actual spam where the message was sent without user posting in the Drupal Services.

So by the definition of spam, I would say this is not an actual spam. More over, to help the President continue with his activities easier, either his account has to be unblocked or he has to create another account to take over that which is against the terms of the community.

I would request this considered. If you find one more spam from this account or any use of this account other than in groups and contributions, you can very well ban this.

Let me know.

cweagans’s picture

But it was not an actual spam where the message was sent without user posting in the Drupal Services.

Two things:

1) I very rarely post anything in our forums, and especially not in /paid-services. I have no need to do so. and
2) Even if I had, copy pasting the same message to multiple people is not only spam, but poor business practice.

In any case, I'm -1 to unblocking this account as well.

Resetting status to where it was.

WorldFallz’s picture

spam is spam. if you have to delve into the technical definition of spam to defend an unsolicited email, then chances are it's spam. And attempting to justify an unsolicited by doing so makes me even less inclined to unblock the account.

The reason drupal users are not harassed and drupal.org is not littered with spam is because there is zero tolerance for it.

@ramesh1988 - please don't change issue fields unless you know what you are doing. Reverting info (can't reassign to amazon though).
