Reference - #1516434: Review Lullabot. Some organization pages have path aliases, we need to make the policy clear - either we create path aliases for everyone or for noone.

While we don't have pathauto and token on d.o #1117436: Deploy pathauto & token for organization nodes? (and we won't have them before D7 upgrade is over for sure) - we'll have to create path aliases by hands.

Marketplace improvements in progress right now and we will have 2 sections of Drupal service providers in future - All providers and Featured providers. Proposal is to create path aliases for Featured providers only. It will give additional benefit for being featured and it will be less work for webmasters compared to creating path aliases for each and every org node.

If we decide not to create path aliases at all - I guess we'll have to delete existing ones to keep it fair.

I think it would be powerful for the organizations to be able to say to people "You can find us at drupal dot org slash marketplace slash companyname."

I am +1 for providing aliases. I'm happy to create them manually until pathauto & token are in place.

Thinking about it more, I have to (kinda-sorta) change my vote.

I think we should wait until we get the tokens in place. I believe doing it once in bulk would be a better use of our time. While Lisa may be happy to do it (but I doubt she'll feel that way after the 20th one :) ) site maintainer's time would be better used on content - like approving Planet Drupal requests, or new g.d.o Group requests.

I think this should be postponed until we have better tools to do it.

While I don't want to create more work for the site maintainers, I am afraid adding pathauto etc. will not happen any time soon. And I don't want to remove existing aliases also.

When updated Marketplace is deployed, we still will have to edit each and every organization node of those companies listed on Drupal-services book page right now to promote them to featured. I don't mind creating aliases same time. And after that I think we won't have lots of companies added to Featured section every week since moderation process is never too fast, so it won't be really a trouble to create this aliases by hand.

+1 for path aliases here, too. This is something I can make some time to help with.

Just to be clear, in another issue (#1485928: Uses of GDO taxonomy) I said that I don't actually have a problem that anyone has path aliases for their listings. I agree with the notion in the current issue summary that either we create path aliases for everyone or for no one.

+1. Unless there are purely objective measures of differentiation (so we can avoid the "you have contributed but not enough for my taste" kinds of conflicts).

I think it would be a great benefit to allow any featured company to get a custom URL, but it would certainly be a good amount of work and (as noted) would need to be automated at some point after the update to D7. However, I do think we should be including "company" and/or "marketplace" in the URL to denote that this is a business listing, so drupal.org/company/zivtech or drupal.org/marketplace/zivtech or something...

I think drupal.org/marketplace/[companyname] is a good idea. Is anyone against? If not I'll start adding such paths to featured providers.

drupal.org/marketplace/[companyname] sounds great to me. I've been using the main part of the company name only, e.g. marketplace/2bits not marketplace/2bits.com-inc ;)

FYI we're doing this as part of the Marketplace cleanup.

We assigned aliases to all companies in the Featured section, except for the ones pending review. I think this issue can be set to fixed since we agreed on alias pattern.

Thanks, everyone! While lots of folks say that "a", "and", "of", etc. are ignored by search engines, they're definitely not ignored by humans and I'm glad and grateful to see the "of" part in the URL at https://drupal.org/marketplace/exaltation-of-larks

Nope, path aliases will be added to all organization nodes soon. #2615922: Configure path auto for organizations.
