How does this compare to the Field Permissions module?

Field Permissions are for Fields. This is for the Publishing options for a node.

These modules' functionality are not related, Authoring information is node's properties and not fields. I think the module's functionality/purpose is described well on the project page so there is nothing to do with the issue
