Sometimes within an organization using Casetracker there will be groups that have different case state requirements. It would be nice if I could one set of case states (say the default bug, release etc) to one type of project and another set (gather information, write document, submit for edit etc) for another type of project.

Just to clarify: this would require the functionality to define multiple project types. For example, you might have want to specify the following project types:

  • Documentation
  • Bug
  • Training
  • Marketing
  • Each of those kinds of project would obviously need its own set of case states.

After thinking about this some more, one further implication (rather obvious in hindsight) is that to implement this feature the dashboard and the case list would need some kind of modification.

For example, if only one set of case types is used, it would still look the same as the existing dashboard and case list. However if multiple sets of case types are used, you would need something like a dropdown list to select whether you want to view just the bug requests, just the documentation work, just the marketing efforts etc.

This means that the dashboard wouldn't give you a standardized global view of everything, but in a group with different teams this wouldn't make sense anyway.

Hope this makes sense.

+1. Being able to create case states for each node type would really make the case tracker module flexible for anything from project management to software development. The possibilities would be endless!

I'm sort of a PHP nub (trying to pick up on it), but I'd be glad to try and help out if at all possible, on the PHP of the module. not exactly sure about any MySQL code that would have to be implemented, but if you can point me in the right direction, I'd be glad to help with this.
