These are some "easy ports" that are potentially good GHOP tasks:

And some features:

If you can think of other modules that can be ported to Drupal 6 fairly easily, let me know in the follow-ups. I'll get in touch with the module maintainers to make sure this goes smoothly.

I'm the maintainer for Menutree, and I approve this message.

So a couple caveats:

1) We want to make sure our task queue isn't 30 open tasks, 25 of which are "port module X to 6.x". If we want to do 25 module porting tasks, then let's make sure we have at least 2x that many tasks that are something other than module porting. :P

2) We'll want to make sure that the maintainers for these modules are in the loop and mostly available until February to do reviews, hand-holding, etc. as necessary.

3) Since the number of porting tasks we can have is limited by the number of overall tasks we can do (see above), let's make sure that we're focusing on porting modules that are used on several sites and have a big impact in the community. modules used on *.drupal.org are obvious candidates, as well as those that get talked a lot about on forums, etc. Some module that only has had one download ever, probably not such a good candidate.

4) Be careful of filter modules. The port of Codefilter to 6.x was about 2 lines of code. ;)

webchick: I'd say we should do a "rolling list". Vis, have ~3 porting tasks open along with whatever else, then when one or two of them are completed add one or two more. That way we can "scale" depending on demand.

I will be unavailable from Wednesday the 19th through January 2nd, but otherwise should be around the entire time.

Crell: Great idea, thanks!

Not sure how complicated any of these modules are...but I do use the often:
extlinks, path_redirect, inline

Right. So clearly, I need to clarify this.

Please don't propose modules that you wish were ported. Please propose only modules that either you personally maintain, or where you have enough in-depth knowledge of the code that you can review the results. Thanks!!

I've contacted the most recently active maintainers of the BBCode, Comment RSS and "me" aliases modules. I'll contact the ones for the Smileys and User Badges modules shortly, but can't ATM (you can apparently only contact 3 people per hour at d.o, obviously for anti-spam measures).

Wim: D'Oh! I just emailed BBCode and Comment RSS maintainers earlier today as well. Sorry. I guess we should split up the rest of them to avoid more duplication. :-)

The BBCode maintainer has confirmed that he will review patches, but will only commit quality patches (which makes sense, of course).

Great. Let's get a task written up for BBCode then. You can use the event module 6.x port task for inspiration.

BBCode was too easy. Two-line patch.

I'm the maintainer of "me" aliases. Porting to Drupal 6 should be pretty straightforward. There are some bonuspoints to be gained for optimising the regular expression that is at the heart of the module.

I had no idea the module had any sort of popularity. Nice to know.

Heine, maintainer for User Badges, is willing to participate but says he will only be able to hang around IRC in the evenings, not during the day (in whatever his timezone is).

Task opened for menutree here: http://drupal.org/node/207904

Just FYI. There are fewer than two weeks left for students to claim tasks. If you're planning on submitting a task for your module, you should probably get it written up ASAP.

So should we close this issue? :-)

Sounds like a good idea.

Hi, 'me' aliases is a very important module for the site I'm making! Thanks for it.
I ported it to version 6? Is there a port already maybe?
