Dear Drupalers,

This is another milestone in our journey together at drupal.org. We are happy to announce the latest DVH contribution to the Drupal.org community.

DrupalValueHosting is proud to be a sponsor organization for one of the biggest Drupal event in 2008, the Drupalcon at Boston!

About DrupalCon:
Drupalcon Boston 2008 (March 3, 2008 to March 6, 2008) is taking place at the Boston Convention and Expo Center. Drupalcon is the twice-yearly gathering of Drupalers to learn about, discuss & advance Drupal, and to network with other Drupal community members.

Meet Drupal community leaders, top developers, your favorite module maintainers, dojo trainers, members of the Drupal association, potential business partners, and future employees. They are coming from every corner of the world to meet and make the Drupal community more fun at Boston!

We are very happy to contribute to the Drupal Community. More great things coming from DVH in days to come!

As promised, DVH now offers RAID10 dual disc redundancy on its servers.
Info on RAID10 from INTEL: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/CS-020655.htm

The primary benefit of RAID 10 is that it combines the benefits of RAID 0 performance and RAID 1 fault-tolerance. It provides good data reliability in the case of a single drive failure. When one hard drive fails, all data is immediately available from the other half of the mirror without any impact to the data integrity. In the case of a disk failure, the computer system will remain fully operational to ensure maximum productivity. Data fault-tolerance can be restored by replacing the failed drive.

The performance of a RAID 10 array is greater than that of a single drive since data can be read from multiple disks simultaneously. Compared to a two-disk RAID 0, RAID 10 read performance is higher as data can be read from either half of the mirror, but write performance is slightly lower due to ensuring data is written out completely to the array.

Minimum Disks: 4
Advantage: Combines the read performance of RAID 0 with the fault-tolerance of RAID 1.
Fault-tolerance: Excellent - disk mirroring means that all data on one disk is duplicated on another disk.
Application: High-performance applications requiring data protection.

Now you can be assured that your site will keep on running at maximum performance!

Steve

in about 3-six months if its any good. of course i must qualify i am a NOT a geek or a coding freak, so you will be getting one opinion of a person of average ability. but it makes sense for the guy to oversell on drupal, its called drupal value hosting after all, from the looks of things, if it is able to handle drupal, anything else should be easy.

finch’s picture

Just wanted to add a testimonial here in case people feel skeptical that this offer is too good to be true. We had the pleasure working with the DVH team in the last month or so to test out a few of our accounts. They indeed own their own servers with unbeatable speed/performance that I have ever seen with other hosting providers (with drupal sites), better than our own VPSes. Their support team is very responsive and accommodating on our requests.

I encourage people to give it a try and to help build a hosting community that caters to drupal's needs with affordable pricing. The community voice can also help to police the providers to keep their promises.

how often does your company update the lastest app versions? would you consider doing so on request, if say i notice you didnt have the latest version of tikiwiki on moodle would you update within the month?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Long answer: The application softwares are provided by Fantastico automatically. Generally they update installations with the latest versions once the overall community feedback towards the new versions is positive, usually takes a few weeks.

Short answer: Latest versions of drupal of are autoinstalled the same day Fantastico provides it.

PS: The account owners on our servers have access to phpmyadmin/Mysql, FTP, Cpanel, so users can install any version of any software that they prefer! Also, our support team will assist in setting up the latest versions of drupal if required.

Comprehensive review of all major hosting companies over here:
http://drupal.org/node/202401

Steve

fseto’s picture

Hi Steve,

Been looking at new hosting, and came across this one which looks pretty promising. However, got a couple of questions and concerns that I hope you can address:

Technical stuff:
- ssh access?
- Do you allow PHP to open sockets to other sites?
- Do you run shared MySQL servers on a separate machine from the one I am hosted on?
- Do you limit resource usage (CPU percentage, CPU seconds per process, memory, ...etc.)? What are these limits?
- any performance / uptime guarantee?

Most importantly, about the company:
- What's the contact info for your host besides e-mail addr? Any phone #? addr?
- I understand that you guys are a new hosting, but are there any trackrecord / previous experiences that you can provide?
- Anyway to differentiate between your company vs a "fly-by-nite" one?

While your initial reviews looks great, some of us (well, at least I am) wondering how your host will perform as it get loaded with more users. Thanks in advance!

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi fseto,

Glad that our reviews so far had a postive impact.

Here are the answers:
1. SSH Access: Yes upon request
2. Yes PHP with open sockets
3. MySQL runs on the same machine to increase performance
4. No Limits on resource usage (but we can request a user to go-easy on the servers, if we detect abuse)
5. Performance/Uptime so far has been 100%. We provide uptime guarantees of 99.9%

Support is through email and Support Tickets only.
You are welcome to try our services, there is no way we or any other host can provide answers to the next 2 questions. We have been honest and transparent so far. Our customers' review/testimonials stand by us.

We have been adding new servers and storage almost every week. You can be assured of the best hosting experience.

What's the max upload limit?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi dduppie,

You can upload as much as you want 2000GB!! using FTP.

PHP Max Upload is 50MB. But each user can customize his own settings using your own php.ini in your hosting account.

We do not have any constraints on the server.

I'm almost ready to sign up with DrupalValueHosting.com. But I can't bet my business on an unknown company, so I looked for some solid "About Us" info on the website -- and didn't find anything.

In search of understanding I looked up ownership of domain DrupalValueHosting.com, and checked the IP address of its server, and found the info posted below. The domain was registered 6 October of this year for one year by Amit Gupta of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. (Kolkata used to be known as Calcutta.)

http://www.drupalvaluehosting.com/members/announcements.php
On this page is an announcement of the new service, dated 18 November of this year, signed "Amit", I assume domain owner Amit Gupta.

I read the site's legal agreements, which say the laws of Texas apply, but there's no company name or address, so no party or place for legal service as contracts usually specify; I wonder if such agreements are enforceable in the U.S.

The site offers domain registration in these TLDs: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .in. Availability of .in makes sense if the company is in India, so I wonder what the Texas connection is.

Looking at the online signup form, the only payment mode is PayPal, no direct credit card support.

I hope Mr. Gupta or "Steve" will tell us more, because we can certainly use a quality, affordable Drupal hosting service that we can count on.

Domain Name: DRUPALVALUEHOSTING.COM

Last Updated on: 17-Nov-07

Using IPAddressGuide.com to look up the geo-location of the IP address of the server that hosts DrupalValueHosting.com's main site and sign-up form yielded this info:

IP Address 74.86.111.87
Country UNITED STATES
City NEW YORK
IP Name SOFTLAYER TECHNOLOGIES INC

However, this might be owner of the IP block rather than server location, because Tracert DrupalValueHosting.com seems to find the IP in Dallas, Texas.

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Thanks hawkdrupal for raising these questions.

Here are the answers:
1. DVH is a hosting startup with the aim of providing the kind of hosting architecture a resource intensive CMS like Drupal requires.
2. Ownership: The domain is registered in the name of Amit, one of the valuable and respected drupal developer. So you can be assured that we know the minute requirements of drupal and provide the best knowledgeable support.
3. DataCenter: The hosting infrastructure are owned private racks at the Softlayer managed facility. It is a Tier IV datacenter facility located inside the well known INFOMART telecom hotel near downtown Dallas.

Yes we are new, and we are focused and been working hard to provide the best infrastructure for drupal.
(we await the year 2017 so that we can proudly say that we are an established host since the last 10 years... every one has to take the first step one day!)
Till that time our transparency, our customer testimonials and independent benchmarks stand by our resolve.

and have been waiting for a couple of questions to be answered. I keep checking to see if my domain name I selected is still available, and it is. I will be upset if it gets taken before this transaction is setup. Also, I haven't seen anything that would allow me to access a cpanel, or a database, or set anything up. Basically all I have is a user profile and a couple of emails thanking me for my payment. I'm impatient, so maybe if this process takes a couple of hours or days, you should state it on your website. Just a thought. :P
TIA

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

hi Debra,

The account setup at DVH is instantaneous, unless the auto domain registration throws an error due to the customer's domain registration details (e.g. phone number in an unsupported format, address fields not properly filled up.. etc etc). Then we have to do the domain registration manually, which then increases the provisioning time into a few hours.
I checked with the Tech Support staff, they have sent you a question on your yahoo.com id (check support section in your user panel as well).

Please let me know if it takes more than a few minutes for doman/hosting setup once the technician gets the answers to his question :)

PS: Grateful that you chose us for your business. Welcome to DVH!

Steve

It seems that I am getting a better response on this msg board. I gave the tech my info, but I still have no domain or access to a cpanel. How do I go about getting cpanel access? I did the dance, but still no rain. :P

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi Debra,

Account created!

(After your support ticket giving them the name of your domain)
Time taken to provision the account : 20 minutes :)

Welcome to DVH! Glad that you chose to host your business with us.

Regards,
Steve

PS: I checked with the server staff, they said that the domain name was not captured when the auto registration failed.
So once you provided your domain name, the staff processed the registration manually.

I am trying it out now. Hopefully I can leave one of those happy referrals for you here within the next few days. :)

hello,
okay i am about to put 20 sites in the next 2 months on my account, all with their own domain names and a database assigned to them and using drupal for each one. is this too much? these are all new-no traffic sites
oh, i forgot to ask, what about this thingy called memcache which is suppose to help keep stuff from getting bottlenecked? will that help i am planning on learning how to use that.

i am asking here because my email is acting funny and you respond here quickly

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi Shellycorbin,

Please be assured, no worries, you can host as many domains and as many sites on your DVH account. You can keep any stuff you want and run as many drupal installs as you like. With 16 GB of RAM on a Quadcore CPU we can practically take on anything!

Do not be concerned about any memcache or other optimization methods as the hardware takes care of the loads.

DrupalValueHosting Looks like a great deal and a wonderful service how ever my site needs ffmpeg support.
Does DrupalValueHosting support FFMPEG?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi qbert119,

FFMPEG is not yet supported on this package, at least not at the $60/year price point yet.

Currently we are logging and analyzing usage statistics of our servers.
Possibly soon we will be enabling ffmpeg based on existing server load and make the announcement to the DVH account holders.

PS: With 14 more servers being added around mid Jan, there is no reason why we wont be supporting it soon :)

Steve

http://www.DrupalValueHosting.com

OpenChimp’s picture

Adding FFMPEG support would be great. Then we could use the awesome FlashVideo module http://drupal.org/project/flashvideo, which also supports using Amazon S3 for hosting if bandwidth is a concern.

I can't wait for you to add support for this.

Anthony Pero’s picture

If you add ffmpeg support to the package offered above, I'll switch all my sites to your company the next day. That's what I'm looking for, so I can use the FlashVideo module referenced above. I've been using HostMonster, and I've been very happy with them for the last 9 months, but I really want to use that module.

this note is for people like me who dont know quite what they are doing so they wont make the mistakes i made. I bought a blowout account in late december and as it stands now there is confusion for which i take some blame due to the fact that I am still a noobie and i dont understand how to put a number of sites on one account, i am used to one domain/one account. also a problem which i dont feel is not my fault is the domain name the main account is under. before i signed up i wrote the following:

....i meant pxxxExxx, NOT pxxxAxxx

From: Shelley Corbin
To: steve@drupalvaluehosting.com
Sent: Thursday, December 20, 2007 8:58 AM
Subject: purchase question

hello, i am ready to purchase the blowout special, but i had two questions.
1. I want my free domain name to be fxxxxxxxt.com its available, BUT I want my hosting under a name i already own pxxxxxxa.com -that will be the domain and i will make subdomains for the other names I own. if that makes sense. I learned the hard way to keep my domain names and hosting separate. i do need to get fashionelect registered, asap and will pay for it sometime next year. my how would i go about that? do i just sign up with pxxxxxx.com and register the free domain afterward?
2. the name i have on the free trail lxxxxxy.com will need to be moved after i make a subdomain for it. thanks

I was told not to worry, so i bought the package and got fxxxxxt.com for the free domain, well, i should have followed my own thought
1. they put the account under fxxxxxxt, uh....i shouldnt worry right? i was under the impression is didnt matter. so i go ahead and watch the video clip on how to add domains, i get confused when it said subdomain/username and i write the username i want to use for all the sites, instead of leaving the default. instead after trying to add the 2nd domain, it says error, after the fourth domain, i realize i should wise up and stop adding domain names. bottom line the domains i want to build sites on are now subdirectories of the domain name that i didnt want anything on. NOT subdomains, but subdirectories which i recently learned search engines dont read as websites. that was all saturday the 5th, Sunday i realize i should have left the default username:

....when it said subdomain/username -- i should have left the default- which would have made subdomains, but the word username confused me, i had never seen it done like that that before. i think i can set up subdomain properly now. i just need to find a way to make persebra my main domain. below is what i had mentioned in my last note. thank you.

so i believe i can fix/erase and redo the addon domains, but the main thing was getting an answer to:1 Can I make my main domain under www.persebra.com not fashionelect.com (i cannot understand why they main it the main account-i thought i was so clear on that)and 2. why cant i access my original start up account lxxxxxxy.com? its not in the main account. i cant get to the back end i have recieved no answer. i cant do anything until i get an answer. saturday night, sunday, monday, tuesday, weds morning,.....i have now found out they have have closed the support ticket without answering me!
I sent two notes, one saturday and sunday that have gone unanswered. i am so disappointed. these are very stressful times for me right now, my energy is drained, i feel dejected that i am ignored. things are really tight right now, and 60 dollars is nothing to a lot of people, but making that up again to buy hosting service somewhere else is a strain.
the good thing is that at least i had learned my lesson to keep domain registration and hosting accounts separate!

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Shelly, you had been a great customer, but your words here are very hurtful!

I checked the support ticket and found that the response by the tech support was within 2.5 hours. The support also added one of the domains as an Addon domain for you as an example. And provided you the following reply:

Hi Shelley,
These domains should be added as "Addon Domains" (See under domains section in Cpanel). You can add as many as you like.
So effectively these domains are controlled from your main cpanel account. They have their own separate FTP login.
Even though they are served out of a subfolder of your main site, yet to the site visitor they will be accessed directly by just typing the domain name in the browser.

For example: I have added one of the domains as addon domains in your cpanel. detxxxxxxxer.org (user:dxxxxxx pass:dxxxxx)

PS: you will also need to change the DNS to ns1.drupalvaluehosting.com and ns2.drupalvaluehosting.com with your domain registar for these domains.

While the main user name of the hosting account is linked with a domain name, that does not mean that all additional domains are subdomain of the main domain. In simple words: "Addon Domains are not subdomains and they can be accessed directly by typing the domain name in the browser". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addon_domain

And as a human being, i would request you to understand that all people live equally stressful lives. We are not a 100 people company, and cannot compete with the big guys with million dollar budgets. But we are honest, hard-working and transparent to the public.

I understand how you feel, Please do let me know what we can do to help you with your hosting account....

socialtalker’s picture

and i responded to your reply on saturday with saying i had switched the nameservers and questions about the subdirectory problem. which i didnt get a response to. but THAT was okay because by sunday i realized the mistake i made and wrote to you i think i can correct it and the important thing was answering the question i asked in both notes was if there was a way to make the main account not fashionelect but persebra.

Hello,

I have some questions before ordering:

- Do you have 100% pay-back guarantee?

- "Addon Domains" means adding subdomains to the primary domain?

Thanks for your reply.

Ramon

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi Ramon,

We have 100% payback guarantee if our servers go below 99.5% uptime. (Just a note: we have been running at 100% uptime since the last 50 days!)

Here is more info on Addon Domains:
http://www.cpanelguide.net/addon.php

An addon domain is a domain name that that points to a subdirectory within your account (not a subdomain, its a full domain). For example, you may want innovation.org to point to business.org/innovation/. The addon domain will look completely independent to the outside world with no means for anyone to know that this is running on an account under another site.

Looking forward to having you onboard with DVH!

Regards,
Steve

steve@drupalvaluehosting.com

ranape’s picture

Esteve Thanks for your reply.

If, after trying your hosting, I'm not satisfied with your services, how I can cancel my account with payback guarantee? That is, 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Thanks.

Ramon

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi Ramon,

I am sure you will be impressed by the top-end hosting infrastructure with >99.9% uptime and the blazing download speeds (at 1000Mb/s port speed!). These are the two main criteria for issuing refunds.

If we fail to deliver the above, just write me an email (or raise a support ticket), full refund guaranteed!

PS: we have had 100% uptime since the last 50 days and more! So we are pretty much confident on that front :)

hawkdrupal’s picture

>> blazing download speeds (at 1000Mb/s port speed!

Can you explain what you mean by "port speed"? Do you mean your server has a 1GB Ethernet card, as most do these days? That's just one tiny part of the overall route of traffic to and from your server. It could be throttled down at any point after that.

A car can have a top speed of 200mph, but if it is always driven in heavy traffic in the slow lane, its potential max speed doesn't matter.

What really counts is the nature of your server's connection to the Internet, especially to an Internet backbone. Can you explain exactly what that is?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi John,

The hosting racks have multiple Gigabit connections to the internet backbone.
Regarding speeds, There is only one way to find out.. Try downloading the file below from your fastest internet connection available, i am sure you will max out the download speeds possible on any connection!
http://www.drupalvaluehosting.com/members/downloads/testfile20mb.zip

DataCenter and Reliability: The hosting infrastructure are owned private racks at the Softlayer managed facility. It is a Tier IV datacenter facility located inside the well known INFOMART telecom hotel near downtown Dallas. Specializing in datacenter and hosting facilities, INFOMART is home to multiple datacenters including MCI, Level 3, Equinix, Verio, Switch & Data, Verizon, DataSides, and more. With connectivity to nearly all major fiber carriers in the southern mid-western United States, the network is the most reliable one that you can get for your business!

Was only able to get 800 KB/s from your server, which puts it at about 6mbit.

Just for comparison, here's a 20mb file on my site hosted by AN Hosting.

I have a 10mbit connection here, and the AN Hosting download maxed it out at 1204 KB/s.

It makes it hard to believe you JohnForsythe, especially after the lowball trick on "2008 hosting recommendations" thread where you are using hidden affiliate link, and funny enough the same affiliate link appears above!

Here i have added a few comparision tests below:
1. Network Latency/Ping time (USA)
Testing Site: http://www.dnstools.com
Blamcast.net- Ping Time: 33.4ms
DrupalValueHosting.com - Ping Time: 3ms
http://drupalvaluehosting.com/benchmark/dvhpingtest.jpg
http://drupalvaluehosting.com/benchmark/blamcastpingtest.jpg

2. Download Speed test 1:
Testing Site: http://www.web-hosting-top.com
Blamcast.net (20MB): 26.87 seconds
DrupalValueHosting.com (20MB): 24.58 seconds
http://drupalvaluehosting.com/benchmark/20mbfiletest.jpg

3. Page Load Speed test 3:
Testing Site: http://www.iwebtool.com
Blamcast.net : 0.03 seconds/kb
DrupalValueHosting.com : 0.02 seconds/kb
http://drupalvaluehosting.com/benchmark/pageloadtest.jpg

we would have taken this comment more seriously if you had not used your Affiliate Link for AN Hosting.
What makes it even worse is the fact that you have cloaked it using a URL redirector from your site.

Drupal Value Hosting vs. Media Temple GS
dpfiffe - January 2, 2008 - 23:42
Legend:
GS = Grid service w MySQL Grid container lite
DV = Drupal Value hosting, out of the box

GS: Longest query on homepage took 9.8ms
DV: Longest query on homepage took 2.8ms

GS: Executed 142 queries in 99.0 milliseconds
DV: Executed 142 queries in 38.19 milliseconds

GS: Page execution time was 496.62 ms.
DV: Page execution time was 152.69 ms

Carbon copy of all files structure and DB, running primarily InnoDB tables. Honestly, i'm pretty impressed!

JohnForsythe’s picture

All your links amount to affiliate links, seeing as you're working there.

Either way, that still doesn't make your claim of 1000mbit port speed any less misleading, when it comes to real world performance. But you weren't trying to mislead anyone, were you? Every competent system administrator knows that port speed only matters within a LAN.

Is this a case of shady business practices, or simply incompetence on your part?

Furthermore, your ping test is also misleading. "Dnstools.com" is hosted in the same city as "Drupalvaluehosting.com". Of course the ping time is going to be lower, the packet only has to travel a few miles. It's possible you're even in the same datacenter as them. Here's my own ping test, showing your site to be slower. But, again, that's 90% irrelevant. Ping times tell you virtually nothing important about how well a server will run Drupal.

And while we're on the topic of comparisons... Your site, DrupalValueHosting, isn't even running on Drupal! It's WHMCS, the same software anyone could stick on a server and play hosting company with. Here are just a few examples:

http://www.mysmallbizusupport.com/
http://www.futurewebservices.info/
http://www.accomplishhosting.com/
http://www.myothello.net/

And I noticed you don't even list a business address or 1-800 number (no phone at all, actually), on your website.

One more thing: You might want to add a disclaimer to your site about it being unofficial, and not associated with the Drupal Association. Drupal is trademarked, you know, and that kind of thing can get your domain seized.

--
John Forsythe

Epic.Nme’s picture

I'm gonna be neutral here and give my ping results, if it means anything I live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada... Right next to Detroit....

www.blamcast.com pinged at 58ms roughly, there server seems to jump allot between 56ms and 172ms.

www.Drupalvaluehosting.com pinged at 83ms exactly constantly, this server seems more stable.

Pings for web browsing isn't gonna effect allot but if you were to run games of this server like COD4 or CS:S or sumthing then we could argue but honestly who cares it's web browsing, we care download and upload speed....

HotDrupal.com’s picture

There is a reason for no 1-800 numbers, or addresses.

The company is run out of India. There's no mention of it on the site, or in any of the threads. Hosted in the US at SoftLayer, then everything goes back to support in India where everyone hides behind American names.

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Read the title above. ^^

+ 100% uptime in last 65 days +best drupal hosting platform till date (better than MediaTemple Grid Service) +open and transparent policies +live accountability in a public forum like this

If you had enough education to be able to read the threads above you will notice that this fact has already been brought forward and answered honestly. What was your point?

What about http://www.site5.com/contact/ .. Where is the address? The site5's 8xx number also is for sales only .. no support over phone by Site5.

The reason for not having 1-800 numbers and live-chat and phone support at DVH is to keep the costs for our end customers down.
And regarding address: would you prefer a support ticketing system that goes through snail-mail? Does your current host does it that way? ah! well you are a hosting company in yourself. Visited your site. Could not find any address on hotdrupal.com site. Just saw this text on the Contact us page: "The best way to contact us is via e-mail.".
What was your point in putting the damning post above? Do you think that "Steve" is a copyrighted American name? I have seen "steve"s in almost all countries in the world. It is a short name of "Stephen/Steven" and a very common Christian Name. Honest, hard working and faithful people of The Lord are found in all corners of this world.

That was the most narrow minded and stupidest post i have read so far at Drupal.

PS: Read the title of this post above (again)

Steve, are you Amit? Be honest :)

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Short Answer: No
Long Answer: I work for Amit

-Steve

JohnForsythe’s picture

What if I told you I had proof that you are Amit Gupta? This is your last chance to tell the truth. Think about your answer carefully.

Nitemare’s picture

So what's the truth please?
We are waiting for your answer.

You don't have to care about us, it's okay.
But if you really care about your customers, why don't you just tell them who you are and where you from?

I'm a customer of Hot Drupal.com. Why? Because I feel safe! I know where are they, and how to find them. And of course everything is great. Anyway, I'm very happy.
Yeah, I always submit tickets when I need help, but I got their help fast just like live chat. If I can speak English well, I can contact them by phone.

I don't hate you, and I'm not working for Hot Drupal. We just care about "Drupal" and our "websites". We just need a good hosting company, which can make people feel happy and safe, that's enough.

HotDrupal.com’s picture

Actually at the bottom of every page is a link to the parent corporation site, and it has a mailing address on it. Plus every page on my site has local numbers, toll free numbers, and London numbers,

I could care less you are in India. I went to school and had lots of classmates from India, and I've worked for two companies owned by people from India. As far as I am concerned I've met more good people from India than any other country in the world.

I don't think it's a "bad" thing at all. It just seems strange that it's almost like you try to hide this from people. Why not just use your real name and tell people who you are? Most people from America, Europe, and most other continents really like people from India. What people don't like is when others try to hide things from them, or pretend to be something else.

Just be proud of it. Tell people who you are, where you are, and put it on your website.

Steve

Sophia’s picture

I would like an answer as well, it's the only thing (well almost) that is holding me back so far... not the fact it is an Indian based company, it's just that I don't like cloak and dagger... but as I said before, I shall decide in June where to go. Either stay with Bluehost who in general are very good except for the strict CPU enforcements, or move to DrupaValueHosting!

CharlotteDK’s picture

I have once before had a host based in the U.S, but that turned out to be a big mistake as most of my readers, just like me, is from Europe. The site worked very well for the few readers I had in the U.S, but for the big majority in Europe the site was way too slow. No matter what I tried it never got to work. After 3 months I went back to a European host and I never had that problem again. This offer is good yes, but will I once again end up in the situation that it is slow for the readers in Europe?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi Charlotte,

You have a valid point, the latency rates between the continents is different and depends on where the servers are located.
May be you can try downloading one of the test files posted above:
http://www.drupalvaluehosting.com/members/downloads/testfile20mb.zip
http://www.drupalvaluehosting.com/members/downloads/testfile10mb.zip

Please check, i am sure the speeds and latency rates would be good for european residents as well.
We have had many customers from Europe and even as far as China, Russia, South Africa.... and they have had only good things to say for us :)

Steve

Can I cancel my account any time I wish for whatever reason (even it is my problem)? with full refund for that month and the rest of months?
This will make it unmanageable for any business! No company can survive that way..
If the service quality is lacking then it provides rationale to issue full refund, and we do offer full refund for that.

btw, we have had 100% uptime since last 60 days and happy customers so far!

I want to order but I need some one to confirm before I order... :'(

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi Epic.Nme,

We do not have any up/down speed throttle. The servers serve files at their maximum capacity.
Some of our cusomers have successfully uploaded files more than 2GB in size via FTP.
FTP can hold files upto 4GB or larger. As long as you hold the copyright for the file or its public distribution.

Also, serving files 3GB+ to mass public using DVH shared hosting does affect the service quality for other customers.
As long as it is not done on a super mass scale... it is all right to host such files and you are more than welcome!

Steve

What/who will be registered as contact, owner, etc. on the ICANN register and which registrar do you use for the free domain offer associated withe the very generous other features? :)

I guess my concern is about domain ownership!

Thanks

Michel

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

hi michel,

domains are registered through Directi in the customer's name/address.
Running a whois on the domains registered through us will show all fields/info/ownership in the customer's name.

In short, you will be the one owning the domain, and can transfer it anytime you wish + modify ownership details in the DVH user panel.

will blowoutpackage support them?

Is this possible?

sure, it will work with that configuration. (Cpanel with your account, allows you to do that). If you are unfamiliar/new to cpanel then just raise a support ticket or email me directly once you register an account. We will make these domain/hosting configurations for you.

I already own Drupal Blowout account. Paid 1 year. Before i buy i asked if i could have my domains .com.br on Drupal. Seller told me YES. See below:

http://drupal.org/node/201606#comment-694726

After almost 2 months I still couldnt transfer my .COM.BR domains to drupal DNS because they arent regonized by registrar.br.

I already contacted ticket support but treat me like a 10 year old thinking I am doing something wrong. I know how to change DNS, I already did it 100 times BUT drupal-dns isnt working on registrar.br.

Registrar.br says problem are on Drupal Dns Servers and I believe they are right because i already changed 2 times DNS at registrar.br on same domains.

Servidor DNS Master: Domínio desconhecido
Servidor DNS Slave 1: Domínio desconhecido

Domínio desconhecido translating "Unknown Domain"

See error I get below:

Hi jasperultrascan,

We accept transfers of regular domains like .com/.net etc, but we do have many customers hosting their .co.uk, .co.in .us, .it, .co.br domains with us. I have been with Bluehost for almost 2 years, in July my contract expires. I was happy with them until about mid December, when the CPU error messages started to get out of hand. I don't know if it had to do with one of my sites featuring Ubercart, but since it hardly gets 20 visitors a day, I thought my provider should not get upset over that. And everybody keeps telling me to optimize my scripts blah blah, c'mon, it can't be that bad! I use all the caching I can (both Drupal and in cpanel) and I still get this darn message several times a day. Whenever I so much as run cron, or backup my database... 5 minutes silence!

Anyway, if DrupalValueHosting still looks good in June, and if I can get over my reservations of hosting with an India based company that seems very, very eager to get new customers (please don't take offence), I might make the switch... and it would be the ValuePrivateIP hosting, since I would like to use 10-15 domains... not all Drupal I might add.

Here is another user testimonial from one of our valued clients!

Hello!
I just wanted to say that I am truly a happy customer at this point. I have been helped at every turn and within very short periods of time. I really like the correspondence that I am able to get from Amit at DVH, it is absolutely unheard of. I am more used to getting someone that doesn't really have a clue what they are doing and is some random helpdesk employee. So, DVH has been a nice change from that.

(snip)hosting details removed(snip)

Anyway, thanks so much for the great service Amit and all of the DVH staff!

Hi Steve,

You seem to be on the ball when it comes to nswer questions! :)

Altough this would not be a mandatory criteria for a host, I am wondering if/when you would offer a Postgres database. I do know drupalers tend to prefer Mysql, but to me Postgres is a a better database and I am more familiar with it.

I have recently signed up for an account with drupalvaluehosting and was having an issue with access to the control panel.
I issued a ticket explaining my situation and awaited a response.
Can you say 5 minutes?? Fastest response I have ever received from a hosting company!
I was soon accessing my control panel (as it was a problem on my end, not the host) and the panel is one of the best layouts I have seen in a long time.
I have yet to install anything on the site, but will soon. I cant give a testimonial of the performance yet, but my first experience is two thumbs up!

Hi xplordriller!

The hosting package is also at $5/month only (if the couponcode "HalfPriceBlowout50p" is used while ordering the account).

This is true, we will keep on renewing the domain for you (for free every year) as long as the domain is hosted at DVH servers.
Also, if you choose to host it elsewhere, we will provide free transfer of the domain to any registrar of your choice!
We are very open and transparent at DVH.

Most shared hosting providers have outbound email limits, cpu resource limits, memory limits, etc and if a site exceeds them they are shut down (often without warning). I understand that this is done to ensure that the other sites on the server continue to get acceptable performance.

What are the limits at DVH, and what happens if a site exceeds them? Are limits per-domain or per-account?

Thanks!

We are proud to launch a new hosting package that revolutionizes the hosting industry!

The "World's Best Hosting Package" is for webmasters/hosts who want to experience the performance of the world's fastest and most reliable servers. This exceeds any VPS or dedicated server experience that you may have ever known!

Details here: http://drupal.org/node/214879

I just feel I need to tell someone, as this kind of support is rather exceptional for the price.

Having been reading this particular thread, I decided to use drupal. As the number available for the special packages were going down I thought I'd better hurry and join.

I am not a drupaler by any strech of the imagination. :) I may become one! :) OTOH I have about 40 years experience in software development, whatever that is worth!

I did go thru the registration/payment system which was rather painless with a minor problem. Concerned about any problems with cc details, I raised a technical issue mentionning the problem with drupalvaluehosting.

Within a few minutes I had an international call on the phone number I gave as contact. Now, I did not expect a reply for 24-48 hours, as I didn't mark the ticket as very urgent. Bu t there you are! It seems that some people understand service and deserve customers. Thanks drupal!

Michel

Do you use Drupal on drupalvaluehosting ?

Please confirm or deny if you are Amit

If these questions aren't answered I would really like a moderator on drupal.org to address the issue as all I see is spam and a lowering of what a drupal is.

All these issues have been clarified with Drupal Board Member, and they know all the details about DVH. Please refer this question to members of the Drupal Association Board or any of the drupal.org moderators.

Kind request to only discuss about details of hosting plans and service details on this thread.

I signed up a couple of weeks ago. A little cautious remembering all those things my dad said about "no free lunch" and "too good to be true".

DVH has met all my expectations and then some. So far performance has been outstanding. Feels like I'm working on my local server.

And support - I've never experienced better and I've been at this for the better part of a decade. Submitted at ticket an hour or so ago about an issue with cPanel and DVH took the time to understand the issue, identify shortcomings with cPanel's solution, recommend and install an open source alternative which not only addresses the immediate issue but does so very effectively and provides additional tools which go way beyond those of the stock offering.

Very impressive!

1kenthomas’s picture

Jim,

One problem here (among a few) is that anyone who knows server and hosting prices can take a glance at DVH's pricing "schemes" and realize that the cost of their hosting alone is higher than the revenue that can be gained from customers at the pricing points/service guarantees they have spit out.

Couple that with the facts that they've been downright deceptive about their service guarantees, changing the descriptions at will "please ask us privately instead of in public;" and that they are an "entity of unknown form" operating, evidently, from India... which means you don't know who the heck they are, and unlike a US-registered entity, if they turn your website off because you actually use a part of the 9TB they once offered, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Ultimately, the reason DVH is "Impressive" currently is that they are currently undersubscribed. It is illogical to assume that will continue and very logical to wonder what the game is here.

Ken

MWLimburg’s picture

Just wanted to reply, whilst this idea is fresh in my mind.

I do seriously think that a large amount of the suspicion and issues that I've seen are due to cultural and language issues, something I see everyday professionally. The fact that we expect a certain type of communication .. both due to past experiences in the online world, and due to being involved with the open source community .. tends to colour many opinions.

I personally raised a number of issues with them, and have received answers that are quite acceptable for this level of hosting.

Am I going to put my business on there? Maybe, but the backout procedures I'll use there are the same I use when using any hosting service, even if I have a contract with my host in their blood and countersigned by four major deities. My business, my backups, my control. In case you haven't noticed, businesses die no matter what their size, and in this industry, they die quick.

Am I going to put my hobby sites on there, or my dev sites? Damn straight.

Your use (here) of logic is concerning, hell, misleading. At best, it demonstrates your concern at not knowing the facts (which is understandable, and your real quest) ... which is not a place to start talking about logic.

Yes, they operate out of India. And?

I'm personally getting annoyed at these pointing fingers, that don't actually seem to be helping their own concerns. Define them, document them, email them, and make em public.

You talk about logic? Let's do that then. I know I am, and so far, I'm happy enough to use their service within the market that it's aimed for.

Here's an idea. Go and ask these questions on their (new) forums. I'm already there and I'll help you myself.

Well said Mark. I have to agree with you.

Some of the questions raised here are borderline offensive and narrow minded.
If you are not going to make use of the service provided by DVH, Why insult them? Unless you have an ulterior motive???

I for one have been treated with respect and courtesy by DVH from the get go. I cannot say the same for some other hosts.

Thank you for the link. I have signed up on their forums, and shall no longer contribute to the spamming of this thread. :)

I wish to say one last thing though: caution is NOT a bad thing and has nothing to with racism, nasty disposition, alterior motives or anything else. When one observes something odd, one start to raise questions... it's as simple as that. I have the same concerns as kenthomas. Not once did I think he was unreasonable or racist, he posed good questions and so far I have not seen satisfactory answers. However that may change, if and when it does, I will be happy to sign up for DVH! Personally i always have maintained at least 2 hosting accounts across different providers so i can easily pop over to the other host in case something happens to my primary hosting account.

A cheap package with 1and1 or anhosting doesn't run much past $5 / month. That's a small price to pay for a 'backup' plan in case your main webhost goes down, be it DVH, or MediaTemple, or whoever.

On several occasions I found myself stranded for days without service on MediaTemple's grid service. That's just to say that a 'track-record' or reputability doesn't necessarily = stability or good service.

To Mark's point, sure DVH could shut their doors at any moment. So could any other hosting company.

Mark,

Namaste, she'deman. Amit sei jar?

I was mentored by MIT's Abhay Bhushan, who wrote the ftp and mail protocols. The idea that there is hidden racism here or that I don't know what India and Indians can and do contribute to the world is ludicrous.

I now see that DVH has posted some info about Amit, the corporation and its intents. If true, I hope they go forward and things go well.

DVH's prime problems boiled down to:

-- Operating without a proper, legal identity
-- Employing improper, aggressive marketing techniques on this forum, and misuse of the forum
-- clearly deceptive and false business practices, including lack of any service contract, typically associated with fraudulent businesses
-- clearly false, overstated, and misleading claims

While each of these can be explained, they are not good business practices, and any entity that employs them on d.o. is likely to get called on them (I'm only here because someone on #drupal-support complained).

I also have had some concern that Amit has not presented himself and his venture in a manner that is appropriate and likely to succeed internationally, and would have offered more detailed advice had DVH chosen to engage in that conversation.

And nonetheless I remain concerned that the above reveal that Amit has not fully thought through this venture and, while sincere about producing "the best service in the world--" "100% uptime,--" etc.-- claims roughly equivalent to "the world's best pizza" -- is not prepared to deliver and is hiding behind that particular "Indian" bluster that I know and love so well.

In particular, the claim that DVH's recent multi-hour outage was a result of DDOS is a boldface lie. Period. You can call that a "cross-cultural communication" problem if you want, and you can call election fraud "significant problems with undercounting."

If what you are saying is that you consider DVH a throwaway service "caveat emptor" then fine, but clearly DVH is attracting a lot of people who don't look at it that way and instead expect to get what they were promised for what they pay.

It is also highly interested that for every concern, someone pops up with a largely specious, squirmy, sketchy reply and tells people to "take it outside--" in this case, to d.o.'s private, and I assume censored, forums.

That is all.

Is mailing list (mailman) available?

Are there any restrictions (number of messages per hour/day) that can be sent by members?

What is the maximum number of members that can belong to a mailing list?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi coupet,

Yes, Mailman (Mailing List) feature is enabled in the DVH Cpanel.
Any number of members can belong to the list.

Most importantly, we have no limits for email sending. Any amount of emails can be sent, as long as people do not write to us about spam emails from the domain :)

We have no restrictions at DVH!

What happens if/when the bandwidth is (hopefully) exceeded, is there a surcharge, if so how much?
Is it possible to add unique IP to this plan?
Would I have to select a domain name now or could it wait (I own several and am trying to cut down :)

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

If bandwidth is exceeded, you can keep your website up and running with $0.20/GB of additional bandwidth. Yes, dedicated IP can be added to any account on additional payment of $1.5/month. You need not purchase a new domain, you can also provide an existing domain that you own and point it to DVH nameservers.

Steve

I signed up with these guys in the beginning of December, 2 months ago, and have nothing but good things to say about them.

In the 2 1/2 years that I've been working with Drupal, I've always had frustrations with my hosting companies. I've worked with about 5 other companies and played around with expensive VPS plans from reputable companies like MediaTemple. Apparently, spending as much as $60/mo, didn't mean I would get good service. I came to really hate hearing "It's a software issue", putting the blame on drupal in some way even though my local dev box worked perfectly.

If you're not a server admin and want people who you can trust to know how the servers should be set up to run drupal, these guys will save you a lot of potential headaches.

  • Drupalers - this is the first hosting company I've found where the people actually understand drupal instead of just having heard of it. This means their servers are setup from the start to work properly.
  • Good Support - usually pretty quick with answers, though you may have to wait 24 hours for more complex issues ... but they have shown that they really care to get the issues resolved and keep their customers happy.
  • Blazing Speed - my sites have never run so fast. They've got some great servers over there!
  • Great Deals - as I said, I've spent a lot of money on different hosts and none of them were as good as DVH

I downloaded the 20MB file from 3 hosts... My current site (Dot5Hosting), DVH, and AN Hosting. DVH was BY FAR the fastest, taking probably less than 1.5 seconds to download. BTW, I have Verizon FiOS 15Mbps (and I love it!). Anyway, AN Hosting was probably a little bit faster than my current host, but still took about 10 seconds or so. Okay, so then I did a ping test:

HOLY COW!!! (drool) Do you see those speeds? Am I seeing things or are they really that fast?

I might have to switch. However, I have a question... or two... :)

1. Will these servers always be this fast, or are they this fast because you don't have a lot of clients yet?
2. Can I run CGI scripts? Do I have access to .htaccess file and/or http.conf?
3. Can I stream video/audio? (Although probably not really necessary with so many free video hosts out there, eh?)

WOW! I'm impressed. I've never seen this kind of speed from any host... but I've always done the shared hosting packages. Do the more expensive dedicated services get 6ms speeds?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for sharing your test results. Much appreciated!

Here are the answers:
1. Yes, the servers will always be this fast. All our server load and uptime statistics are shared at the public website: http://drupalvaluehosting.com/members/serverstatus.php
we monitor and provide access to these realtime statistics for assessing the server performance metrics. We are a very open and transparent in that aspect.

2. Yes CGI is enabled. Yes, you can use custom .htaccess files. (httpd.conf changes are made upon request)

3. Yes, audio/video can be streamed. (serverside conversion from movie to flash(flv) not enabled though, requires FFMPEG)

4. Yes, All our servers share the same internet backbone, so the speed and performance are comparable.
The expensive package ("World's Best Hosting Package") has created a buzz in the industry. No other webhosting company offers the "Super Monster Server" configuration for shared hosting! Infact we have had many people ditching their $80/month VPS hosting plans to move to DVH servers at a fraction of the price ($20/month with the 50% discount coupon code)!

I would be happy to answer more queries. Much thanks for sharing the test results :)

I have been with DVH since late November/early December, hosting www.opentk.com (the homepage of a game programming library). Things have been running great so far: server response times are excellent (testing from Europe), the pages are generated and served fast (generally under 1s on this site), and support tickets are answered promptly (haven't needed many of those, thankfully ;) )

My users were genuinely surprised by the response times when I moved to DVH. Granted, the site was hosted on sourceforge.net before, and it doesn't take much to surpass those servers in speed, but DVH was much faster than, say, NearlyFreeSpeech (which I tested at the same time).

My only "gripe" with DVH so far (gripe in quotes, since I am content with the service) is that the site hangs while performing a backup through cPanel. This can be a problem because the cPanel area is being throttled, making the backups take a long time. I'll have to check whether you can do live backups through phpMyAdmin or SSH, but this is something you need to be aware of.

Uptime has also been excellent so far. The only downtime I've ever observed happened 12 Feb, for a few minutes (a faulty hard disk was replaced on a server, no data lost).

Edit: phpMyAdmin can perform live backups, so the backup is a non-issue.

My last observation is that DVH has been steadily growing since November, with functionality being added and refined continuously (a good sign!). I'd say the only thing left for DVH now is the test of time, and, judging from their performance so far, things are looking great!

I've been with DVH since December now on the ValuePrivateIP package, and I'd still recommend them. I presently have my hosting needs and domain registrars spread out between 1and1, mediatemple, and DVH. If DVH continues to perform well, i'd considering moving everything over, because the DVH servers are hands down faster than 1and1 or mediatemple, and i love the latest version of cpanel.

I'm not yet ready to stake my life on DVH server uptime, tech support, etc simply do to their short (but solid) track record.

With DVH being so new, It's hard for me to throw all my eggs in one basket. Similarly, at this point it's hard for me to recommend them to my clients.

IF DVH can grow their support team as their client base grows, and they don't get greedy with overselling, i believe they can be a viable player in the shared hosting world, and with another 6 months of the kind of performance and service I've seen, i'd recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

Steve / Amit.... I wish you the best, please keep up the good work.

I am considering switching to you. I run a small Drupal/CiviCRM site and it just runs way too slow on Dreamhost, although their service and features have otherwise been good. I want to be sure I pick a host/plan where CiviCRM and CiviMail can be set up and will run ok without errors. We have aboutg 2000 users in our CiviCRM but now only get about 100 real visitors per day, but hope to grow.

Can I edit php.ini if I need to? Can I install other php modules that may be needed?

Thanks for your time!

I already own Drupal Blowout account. Paid 1 year. Before i buy i asked if i could have my domains .com.br on Drupal. Seller told me YES. See below:

Hi Steve,

I have just read thru the whole long thread of postings about DVH services.

Have several sites running on Dreamhost at the moment, expiring in March. Contemplating on moving to either MediaTemple's GS or DVH (which I happen to just come across).

Before that, I have few questions:

1. How is the refund done if I used Paypal (say I'm not satisfied with the service)? Is it a 30 days money back guarantee or do you impose a certain period of time beyond 30 days? Ok, I have to admit that I never actually use Paypal in the first place, so if refund is done, how do I get my money back? Do you have some trial period that runs for 30 days for uncertain customers like myself?

2. I don't see much info of technical specifications stated on DVH site. What exactly is (79 Available)? All I can see is this below:

BlowoutPackage2008 (79 Available) -
2000 GB Space, 9000 GB Bandwidth, One Free Domain! , Unlimited FTP;
Unlimited Subdomains, Unlimited Email Accounts, Unlimited Mysql DB, Unlimited Domains;
SSH/Shell Access, Cpanel with Fantastico (over 50 latest web applications autoinstalled)
Free Account migration from your existing webhost!
Yearly Package: $10/Month

3. Can DVH handle DNS from .com.my , .com.sg , com.au , co.vn , co.id , .com.th

4. Is the .htaccess allow to run in directories?

5. Am able to run crontab on the GS hosting?

6. What is the uptime and support response time, say if I encounter any difficulty when using your service?

*****
ATTN: All Drupalers in this forum,

Can you guys list your sites for those who runs on DVH?

I hope you could provide answers to my question as I am looking to move to a new hosting provider comes March.

Cheers,
- yeeloon

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi yeeloon,

Thank you for the questions!

Here are the answers:
1. Refund Policy: http://drupal.org/node/214879#comment-731697

2. For each package, we limit the number of customers that we can provision for existing servers.
For example: "Worlds Best Hosting Package (Super Monster Servers) (18 Available) - " this means that we have only 18 slots left on the Super Monster Servers. This helps set transparency and ensures that hosting is not oversold. Thus enabling us to provide fastest drupal hosting available anywhere.
The technical details of the servers are provided in the bottom of each page on DVH.
Also available on: http://drupalvaluehosting.com/members/serverstatus.php

3. Yes, DVH can handle any TLD domain's DNS.

4. Yes, .htaccess is surely enabled for directories. [absolute must for Drupal!]

5. Yes, you have full access to crontab via your DVH Cpanel.

6. Uptime: We have had 100% uptime since November 2007. Support response times range according to the complexity of requirements. Here is user feedback on DVH support: http://drupal.org/node/214879#comment-733263

Let me begin by saying that I've used many hosting sites since 1992, and DVH is easily the best as far as price/performance and support... period.

I've had some very popular websites over the years that have generated a lot of traffic. Short of a dedicated server (and some of those still don't guarantee DVH speeds), DVH hands down has exceeded my expectations. It took a total of 20 minutes to migrate my website from my previous host to DVH, have it set up and running due to their support. They WILL take care of you, if my experience is any indication.

The speed is just insane, and I look forward to a long, long relationship with DVH.

http://www.subbitt.com if you care to look... ( don't mind the redirect... this is due to my old host being slow as h*** getting me the EPP code to transfer the DNS, and has nothing to do with DVH).

It's getting rather tiresome seeing this thread all the time, especially when a lot of the questions are the type that should be answerable on your website, if you had a forum set up for such things. The rest of the comments are either support issues which should be on your site or complaints about this thread!

When are you going to add a forum to your site. You do not run Drupal on it but I'm sure phpBB or some other forum would work for you if you can't figure out Drupal.

It's getting to the point that your threads seems like SPAM and maybe it should be locked down.

Buying advertising on this site is always an option.

Would I be able to fully utilize all the profered services?

Say I have another website with extremely large file hosting needs. Would I be able to remotely link to all the files hosted on your server?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi miraploy,

Thank you for the question.
The DVH service is focused towards hosting drupal sites.. (highly optimized php and mysql servers). But if the servers start getting used as pure file servers or just as a file dump sharing service, it will affect the performance, eat away the premium bandwidth and will not be considered fair use.

Rather, how about hosting your website with DVH, and using your current host as a file host and remotely link to the files on that account :)

I can be reached via email, so that we can discuss more specific needs for your website. possibly a dedicated server for pure file sharing.

Regards,
Steve

steve[at]drupalvaluehosting.com

Flying Drupalist’s picture

Thank you for your reply DVH. I cannot take that route as my current webhost only allows me 50,000 MB of bandwidth, a far cry from your 9 TB.

As you might've guessed, I also wanted to make a point about your service. Since transmitting a huge amount of files is really the only way to eat up 9TB of 'premium' bandwidth and you do not allow your server to be used as a file dump, then you are intentionally disallowing the customer from utilizing all of the proffered services. I see that you are quick to offer a higher priced service for something that is offered and thus should logically be provided by the cheaper plan on this page.

While we all understand the reality of working in this industry, I think the Drupal community values Honesty and Integrity as much as anything else. So please admit that your hosting plans actually have many caveats and that your business will be unable to support all your customers using the all the promised resources and we will be on our way.

Well, maybe there's a lot of congestion tonight, but I get around 200K/sec from DrupalValueHosting tonight, 300K from AN, and 800K from Microsoft.com (to a dedicated server at HMS).

With all respect, the main problem with DVH seems to be the rather sketchy nature of its presentation. I understand no phone support for a small organization not in the US; but you need to substantiate who you are, where you are, how you operate, and what the real terms of service are. 9TB? C'mon!

Please do not make any assumptions. First become a member at DVH and use our resources/service, I am sure you would be far more impressed with DVH than any of the other hosting companies, you have ever been with! Hurtful comments like these from non-DVH members serve no positive purpose.

All these issues have been clarified with Drupal Board Member, and they know all the details about DVH and committment to honest business practices. Please refer this question to members of the Drupal Association Board or any of the drupal.org moderators.

Kind request to only discuss about details of hosting plans and service details on this thread.

I am glad we were able to work with DrupalValueHosting to get this resolved.

I'll thus hold my longer response on what, without assumption, appear to be "deceptive business practices."

My foremost problem is that DVH does not provide public disclosure of its legal formation nor any agent for service of process. Formally speaking, a contract with DVH is thus unenforceable, and its service offerings in the US likely illegal.

To Amit, 'DrupalValueHosting,' DVH: Please to consider this an informal request for disclosure of your agent for service of process and appointed DMCA agent for US jurisdictions.

I have followed this thread with interest, as I am still in the process of finding a good host. I noticed that none of these questions gets answered, which worries me no end. However others seem quite satisfied with the package... still... I am not convinced enough to make the switch for my 12 domains. Yet!

This is indeed interesting -- and concerning for anyone who signed up an account. DVH blocked viewing of their profile at Drupal.org so this adds to the weirdness. They deployed a forums system a day ago and invited users in yet few have signed in. So, I'll regard my account at DVH as a play account for now, no client sites yet.

I don't know why DVH blocked their profile here at drupal.org.
But I'm very satisfied with the service I'm getting from them. I was at a host where my site was one of 377 on a server and it was slow. At DVH that number is significantly smaller and the server is very responsive.

My sites speed at DVH is very fast and my MySQL space is no longer a problem.

Support was OK at the old host but at DVH I emailed a question at 10:32PM and had a solution at 11:45PM that same night, that never happened at my previous host. Turnaround was days.

Here is hoping that DVH stays in business and keep the good service and fast servers going!
(I don't want to move back to a slow host dangit :-) )

I'll second that. I'm just a bit suspicious.

kylehase’s picture

I agree. So far both the hosting service and customer service has been fine but it's hard to ignore the defamatory claims against this company's past.

SteveBayerIN’s picture

I'm satisfied to the point I have purchased not one but 2 Blowout packages as its a lot more cost effective, not to mention more convenient than running multiple websites on a self managed VPS.

I loved the company which, some years ago, offered $299 for "dial up internet for your life" and, after six months or so of taking money, promptly declared they were bankrupt-- after paying executive salaries.

Those guys at least had a registered corporation doing business in the US legally. The DVH guys may have the best of intentions, but they do not declare who they are and who you go to if you have a problem with them.

Sophia’s picture

Well, I am one of those persons who strongly believes that when something seems too good to be true, it almost always is. What I have read so far does seem too good to be true... promises galore and although facts are never offered, some very aggressive marketing tactics are used for those who care to look beyond the obvious. Any other questions are answered (if at all) by "kindly only discuss the hosting plans offered etc". Or "these questions are not useful and hurt!" Which, to me, is hardly a professional answer... people invest their money into a service, not a one-time expendable product, so to know about the company behind the product is equally important, if not more!

So, my antennae (sp?) got VERY suspicious right from the start... I have posted in this thread a couple of times, but every single concern got completely ignored... now their profile is hidden. Not a good sign (to me anyway). I think I willl skip this round, and if DVH is still around the next time my provider needs renewal, I shall reconsider. Thanks for listening, and keep those reviews coming!

PS if anybody is able to satisfy my concerns, I am VERY willing to listen... it is not my intention to be overly critical. However for now I think my concerns are valid. Please prove me wrong!

Heine’s picture

Their profile is simply hidden because one of the Drupal.org moderators blocked the Drupal.org user account. The frequency of bumps in this thread (likely combined with a similar tactic employed earlier under the name of drupalexpert_amit ) were a cause of concern that DVH, despite many attempts to negotiate by amazon, failed to address.

DVH's second account (http://drupal.org/user/206739) is still active.

I hope we'll have a post mortem on the webmasters issue queue about this story and lessons learned.

Hello Steve, I need a reseller account like the DVH's ValuePrivateIP but I have a little questions:

1- how many CPannel account can I re-sell ? with my WHM
2- can I have parked domains in each CPannel account?
3- do you sell additional domains? at $9/year?
4- there is not a discount time extension for your first client from Bolivia? ;)

thankyou

Does DVH support and allow rsync? I'd like rsync both to backup my host site but also to backup my personal files TO my host. With 2000GB of space I could backup my personal files to an account at DVH using rsync. I used to do this at Dreamhost but they no longer allow it :(.

Hi cronin,

Thank you for the question.

We do have a cutting edge backup on demand technology, developed inhouse. Please see:
http://drupal.org/node/201606#comment-717529

This Enterprise GRID backup system, creates full encrypted mirrors of your site files at two different physical locations simultaneously (at Dallas and Seattle on RAID 5 disc arrays!)

Technically, DVH supports and encourages usage of its infrastructure for running Drupal/PHP websites. If you are running a Drupal site and take up even 2500GB of space, we would encourage it whole heartedly. But using the costly hosting equipment for huge desktop backups or as a file dump is impractical use of the high end server environment.

I appreciate your query and would be happy to answer more questions.

Regards,
Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the fast reply. Perfectly acceptable answer too. But one has to ask, no?

BTW, you really should set up a drupal forum site of your own to handle these sorts of questions. Drupal.org certainly should not carry the resource burden for a hosting company support forum, no matter how drupal friendly it is. Besides, it can be a showcase for your company..

I bought a hosting package recently, and I've been very happy with it so far :)
Drupal runs fast, cPanel has a nice software package.
Their customer service is fast, kind and responsive: they did respond to my questions within a few minutes (well, it is different from the 1and1 automated emails I've been getting in the past ^^)

I've been using DVH the "Worlds Best Hosting Package" and so far so good. Well, I hope DVH will not oversell and that the quality of service will remain as excellent as it is now. The speed of the server is unbelievable. I'd rather expect this kind of speed from a VPS or a dedicated server, not from shared hosting. But DVH delivers it. Support is great as well. Last night I was working on one of my websites and was getting a stupid error - I guess I was just tired :) So, I submitted a ticket and... that was the only glitch encountered with DVH: the ticketing system was giving me an error on submitting. So, instead I used a contact email at the bottom of their website and... what a nice surprise: after 2-3 minutes I was phoned and guided (through GoToMeeting app) on how to eliminate the error on my website.
I hope in a few months I will be as happy with DVH's service as I am right now. Honestly, at the moment I can't imagine switching to another web host...

Any news on FFMPEG support? I tried switching from my current priovider SCHostpro.com to ImHosted.com. Neither support FFMPEG, so if you can get this, I will drop the other 2 and come to you!

I'm planning on using Drupal, but also want to setup a photoalbum that uses ImageMagick.

Is ImageMagick available?

I've been with DVH for a few weeks on their Super Duper oh my god its great shared plan, and it appears to be aptly named. The only problem so far it that I'm learning how slow my broadband connection is. I had some trouble shifting from my old hosts, but the support email turnaround from DVH was within hours, directly with Amit, and was very helpful.

I have been very pleased with the service, and certainly the price.

I understand why users are hesitant due to the nature of the business. For me it was worth the punt. DVH have responded to most of these issues by creating a forum site for discussion (which will also offer tutorials), and it contains this page that explains the DVH business. http://www.drupalvaluehosting.info/content/about-drupalvaluehosting
