In fact, it is not a company. It is just one guy that bought server space and leases it out to others. Amit is Steve. Steve is Amit. The one guy that 'runs' DrupalValueHosting is apparently overwhelmed or uninterested in resolving a server attack from a little over a week ago. DVH customers had general #500 errors, then they could not access cPanel, and now they have no MySQL services. There is no point in anyone signing up for DVH now.

See this page to reveal the identity issue:
http://www.drupalvaluehosting.info/users/steve/track

Notice the user is named 'Amit' but the URL shows 'steve'. You can search Drupal.org for extensive postings from 'Steve' (aka user 'DrupalValueHosting') claiming that he is not Amit. His account was suspended here some time ago.

Here's one of the several sock-puppet posts to falsely disassociate Steve and Amit.
http://drupal.org/node/201606#comment-675119

Here is another post about someone named Amit Gupta.
http://drupal.devheads.org/drupal-5x/do-not-hire-drupalexpertamit-amit-g...

I'm not a fan of public outings but this cannot go unmentioned. There are apparently many DVH customers that have been cheated here. Amit, correct the problems or you will have trouble selling any further Drupal hosting or developing services.

If you're going to advertise on Drupal.org maybe you should consider contacting the Association about prices. Even Siteground, as questionable as they are, at least has the honesty to pay for their advertisements.

Here's a few questions prospective buyers might want to ask:

  • How many employees does DrupalValueHosting have?
  • What is the business address of DrupalValueHosting?
  • Does DrupalValueHosting have physical access to their own servers?
  • Why does the "World's Best Hosting Package" not offer phone support?
  • Why does Amit Gupta own the business, but you only see someone called "Steve" on Drupal.org?
  • Has "Steve" done anything for the Drupal community? Other than post unpaid ads in the hosting forum?
  • How many years experience as a hosting server administrator does "Steve" have?
  • Does "Steve" know anything about server security? Is he a certified CISSP or SSCP?

--
John Forsythe

Nitemare’s picture

  • Is "Steve" Amit Gupta?
  • Can't DVH have their own forum?
  • When will "Steve" answer these questions?
DrupalValueHosting’s picture

john and nitemare: both of you guys are hosting your sites with anhosting.com and hotdrupal.com

It does not seem that any of you are really interested in hosting with DVH. So why such posts and questions? What do you want to accomplish through this? Do you know similar details about the anhosting guy who provisioned your affiliate account?

Most of the relevant details have already been provided on this thread: http://drupal.org/node/201606

As far as DVH is concerned, it has answered all these questions to its customers and provided the best service and 100% uptime.

The following are the testimonials for that:

Could you please display some courtesy if you are not purchasing anything from DVH. Let the existing customers decide for themselves. Please do not make decisions for others or ask personal questions about employees.

Yeah, I'm hosting my sites with HotDrupal.com. But that doesn't mean I will not hosting other sites with other great hosting.

It does not seem that any of you are really interested in hosting with DVH

In fact, I was, really. But why not DVH? Because I knew a lots about your "hosting plans", but I don't know much about "you".

Please do not make decisions for others

Did I say anything about DVH is not a good hosting or don't choose DVH? So why you said that?

If you really answered all of these questions before. Okay, I'm sorry. But why can't you just answer again? Just like you always post "user feedback" or tried to show how great you can be again and again.

Don't you really understand why I asked those questions? Have you ever seen any other hosting advertising just like you?

sonicthoughts’s picture

I'm not happy with anhosting. Generally they are great but they have been unreliable in terms of performance. They are also very expensive for a static IP. They are great, but I don't would rather get reliability and performance for the price I would pay for a static IP.... However, as these guys point out, you are not really stating much about your company. I have absolutely no reason to not trust you, and apreciate your approach of transparency and forum communications, however you are a new player and could suddenly disappear. Also, many hosting companies started with the best of intentions and then couldn't handle the growth. Anhosting was fantastic the first few days and then overloaded their servers. How do we know that you will SUSTAIN your great service.

There are some seedy people in the hosting industry. I think this is what john and nightmare were trying to get at, although IMHO they could be much more tactful and far less confrontational.

Also - just a clarification on your 30day refund - is it 100% or will you charge me for the free domain I register at a high price like most companies have in the fine print of their 30 day policy?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

hi sonicthoughts,

Appreciate your post. Answers below:

Static IP:
1. We provide Static IPs with two of our packages for free (ValuePrivateIP and World's Best Hosting Package). Also for people on BlowoutPackage2008, we do provide Dedicated IP free upon request. (e.g. if they need to install a SSL cert for the website)

DVH logitivity and Reliability:
2. All these issues raised in this thread and the earlier thread have been clarified with Drupal Board Member, and they know all the details about DVH. Please refer these questions to members of the Drupal Association Board or any of the drupal.org moderators.

Kind request to only discuss about details of hosting plans and service details on this thread.
We are investing a lot in Drupal and the drupal community and always seek ways to contribute.

Refund Policy:
3. 100% refund. I am sure you will be impressed by the top-end hosting infrastructure with >99.9% uptime and the blazing download speeds (at 1000Mb/s port speed!). These are the two main criteria for issuing refunds. If we fail to deliver the above, just write me an email (or raise a support ticket), full refund guaranteed!

PS: we have had 100% uptime since the last 90 days and more! So we are pretty much confident on that front :)

Domain Ownership
4. DVH has a very transparent policy, If you decide to part ways, you still own the domain and you get to keep the free domain for the 1 year period, at no cost. After which the normal renewal costs are charged ($9/yr), or you can transfer them elsewhere, as and when you chose.

I would be happy to answer more queries. (steve [at] DrupalValueHosting.com)

DVH, I'm not trying to be hostile here, just an observation on your claim of World's best and a comment on item 2.

First, while the server info you do list is fairly impressive, you do not give any quantitative evidence to prove your claim of World's best/fastest. There are many factors involved in server performance and claiming to be World's fastest is a BIG claim that should have some data to back that up. Minimal server specs is not enough for those that know better.

While server specs are nice, in shared environmnents, the amount of overselling of resources that you do, client site popularity, etc. etc. have a large impact on an individual shared hosting accounts performance.

Yes, it does appear that you have happy customers. Good for you, but that does not mean you have given objective evidence to back your claim of 'World's best.' In some countries there could be legal issues with such claims as stated.

It may be that providing such objective, independent data would go a ways to help address some of the issues raised by those skeptical of your company and offerings.

Comment 2, it is not the job of Drupal board members to address such claims for you. If people do have legitimate questions, it is up to you to decide if you wish to address them or not, it is not the job of others to address them for you. After all, isn't it in your best interest to provide relevant information to your target market/audience?

Another observation is that it does seem that you do work hard at keeping your threads up and visible. Advertising is a good alternative and it would help the community, Drupal.org, you wish to provide your 'World's best' whatever for.

TurtleX’s picture

I'd like to know as well. I'm host hunting now and I checked out their site when they spam-vertised my thread seeking a new host.

I know the answer to this question already: "Does DrupalValueHosting have physical access to their own servers?" - No, they do not. They have SoftLayer machines which explains the speediness of their servers.

what we can get for being reseller?

wmclark’s picture

I just tried out this hosting package against my current host BlueHost.com. I was mostly interested in Drupal Value Hosting because of BlueHost's cpu restrictions which left my site down for way too much time during peak times. My site would normally have around 100 users online or so.

Here is how the two match-up:

Front Page:
BH - 66 queries (15ms) Page Execution Time: 650ms. Longest Query 2ms
DV - 66 queries (14.3ms) Page Execution Time: 103.96ms Longest Query 0.79ms

Views Page with calculation
BH - 73 queries (17ms) Page Execution Time: 709ms Longest Query 2ms
DV - 73 queries (21.28ms) Page Execution Time: 124.08ms

Node Search
BH - 177 queries (46ms) Page execution time: 1134.01 ms.
DV - 177 queries (34.64ms) Page execution time: 251.84 ms

Note: The site performance from BH was my live production site with about 20 users signed in. I also turned off clearn urls for the drupal value hosting testing because I didn't want to change over my domain yet. All times were recorded using devel module and are a rough estimate. I am in no way an expert when it comes to benchmarking.

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Appreciate the objectivity of the tests and its results. Glad that this shows 5 to 6 times better performance than BlueHost! Just wishing that we had the marketing budget to match that of BlueHost :)

PS: I have taken the liberty to post a link to this benchmark on the other DVH thread.

I've been debating between this package and the Blowout one. Because of bad past experiences, I prefer not to purchase on an annual basis. If I sign up on a month-to-month basis with the Monster package, will the discount apply every month, or will the price flip back to $50 next month? The coupon has the word "recurring" in it, so I was hoping it'd apply again next month. :-)

Thanks in advance for your reply.

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Thank you for the query. The discount is a guaranteed perpetual recurring 75% discount.
i.e. the amount you pay in your subsequent billing cycles is the same as your first invoiced amount.

Just got off the phone with Amit. Couldn't be any happier. Not only did we get a great package - Worlds Best Hosting Package (Super Monster Servers) - we got a great price and the best service I have ever gotten.
To everyone who worries about no phone support - we transferred three domains and Amit gave us a conference call number and was on the phone with us for 2 hours!! Now you might think that's a long time but let me tell you, not only did he do all the transfers super fast he found a problem with our Drupal install - researched the problem with us on the line.
By the way I should tell you that we also watched all this in real time with a web meeting as well.
Then he went in and fixed all of our php 4 and 5 problems. Fixed the settings. Recreated all of our email accounts and email forwarders. he stayed on the line until the domain name servers were resolved and we had a great conversation to boot.
So, if you're in India, texas, chicago or Russia, as a novice webmaster and with no experience with the actually tech part of domain process and basically just a customer trying to reach eyeballs, location does not matter.
Customer service will win the day every day, all day.
To Amit, Steve and all the crew at DVH, thank you, thank you, thank you. You have made me look like a rockstar!! Feel free to check out our sites with absolutely zero problems and zero downtime:

I've got my deal and have a few questions:

1. How do I install Drupal? I figured there'd be a cPanel place for that, but I can't find it.
2. What benefit is two dedicated IPs?
3. Why does World's Best have only 50GB of storage and Blowout has 2000GB?

I might have more questions later. :)

(I still can't believe how fast my site gets served. WOW!)

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi CK,

I am glad that you are liking the speed and performance at DVH!

Here are the answers:
1. There was Fantastico (a 3rd party software) which auto installs drupal, but we have disabled it since they have not yet upgraded to the latest secure versions of Drupal. Just raise a support ticket for drupal 5 or drupal 6 install and DVH staff will manually install the latest and secure drupal versions

2. Dedicated IPs have many usages. e.g. for installing SSL certificates, Configuring Dedicated IP based nameservers, Creating IP based FTP, low latency software services.. etc. Most people do not generally require it, but still added there for power users.

3. World's Best Hosting Package runs on Super Monster Servers with RAID10 Array of 8 pairs of SA-SCSI 15000 RPM Discs which are the costliest and fastest hard discs in the world. So the price is higher and the disc space is less. But the performance is amazingly fast as well!

Steve, or Amit, or who ever,

I run a registrar, so this part of the package interests me:
+ You can register one new domain for free! (you will not be charged at all)

Now "a domain" could be in any of 200+ ccTLDs, but is probably in one of the gTLDs, com/net/org/info/ ... where the registry price point is $6 plus the ICANN fee of $.20. However, retail pricing runs from less than $1 over cost, to almost $30 over cost.

So, as you don't say what the renewal cost is, how much do you plan to charge your customers for renewal, and if you are making more than a nominal amount on what is a come-on in the initial buy, how do you plan to conceal from customers their ability to transfer the domain to another registrar? You must expect that even a marginally successful site will generate several years of click-through sufficient to cover renewal and profit, even after being abandoned by the original content provider, and if not abandoned by the original content provider, will be renewed for several years. You're giving away year one, but there are on average another four revenue years for the site even if abandoned within the first year. Then there's the domain tasting typos to consider ...

BTW, who's your registrar (or reseller) partner?

signature left on blank check, reward if found

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi ebw,

The domain registration box while ordering an account allows only specific TLDs :
Here is the message that appears in step 2 of ordering process
"Free Domain Registration applies to the following extensions only: .com,.net,.org,.biz,.info,.in,.name,.us,"

The best part is that, as long as you stay with DVH (1 year or 5 years or even more) that domain remains free of cost. DVH renews the domain each year for you. If you decide to part ways, you still own the domain and you get to keep the free domain for the remaining part of the year, at no cost and you can also freely transfer them elsewhere, as and when you choose.

Thank you for your questions, i would be happy to answer more queries.

Steve

I'm extremely interested, as I'm considering moving my Drupal site from its current home on Servage, because of their slow db servers. They're really cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for.

However, I have a cash flow problem, and I wonder about the payment due upon signup: the entire year at once? I'm currently paying quarterly, and I could afford an initial quarterly payment at the 75% discount rate, but paying for a full year at once is out of the question.

I did look for the answer to this at DVH, but could not find it. I hope you can respond soon, so that I could perhaps take advantage of the discount before it expires.

Thx much,
Andria Duncan

Steve,

Thanks for the response. Using just .com, so we don't have to wave hands about the pricing variations between registry operators, that's $6.20 per year of wholesale cost bundled in the hosting package.

Is it really a marketing advantage to message that the domain name is "free"? Have you tested this with buyers of drupal-hosting? I'm sure it works for the generic "website", but isn't the drupal buyer, especially the paid drupal installer, more clued than to just go for "free"?

Again, which registrar(s) are you using for your domain name buys?

signature left on blank check, reward if found

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi ebw,

Thank you for the questions.

Infact we are paying around $7.95 out of our own funds for each of the free domains and we will keep on paying for the domain costs each passing year perpetually. This additional cost is borne by DVH to make the hosting process simpler for most Drupalers and to make the packages more attractive.

DVH uses Directi as its domain registrar.

Regards,
Steve

ebw’s picture

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. Earlier a $9/yr figure was offered, but I'll take the $7.95/com/yr as authoritative. At present, that's $1.75 over registrar-cost, which is reasonable. Perpetual probably means longer than 10 years, which I think is the maximum buy any registry is allowed to make at present -- we had a mini-bruhaha in the registrar's constituency when NSI offered 100 year sales -- something for corporate counsel -- can a reseller (registrar) legally offer a rental period longer than the seller (registry) is allowed to offer?

Directi is a reasonable choice. There may be some exposure issues w.r.t. tasting and other secondary practices, I'd have picked a straight reg-only shop, but YMMV.

How large is your footprint at softlayer?

I have paid for one year hosting using the 75% discount.

Note: I signed up within 10 minutes of reading this thread... hey marketing DOES work!

This deal is so unbelieveable, I had to go for it.

Normally, I don't comment much except when things goes wrong :)

Paying and registering has been fast via paypal.

Heads for those signing up.. you should get 5/6 emails.

I got 5, the 6th email, for me was in the members area "MY Emails"
It has the Account information... passwords, ns1, ns2, IP, etc...

So no worries.

My new domain is already live.

Time to put up a holding page...

I like the colourful cPanel.
Makes my Hostgator account look boring now...

Now let's crank it up and see what it can do!

I will be loading Drupal 6, and other membership scripts to see what flies and what dies!

===

Lately, I have been trying to register with another "well respected" host
their sign up service has been very strange to say the least... their support takes a very
long time to respond... do they want my money or what?

Any way their plan was going to cost $$alot per month! What was I thinking!
For me if a host can't even take money off me efficiently they are in the wrong business!
And I buy anything!!

Now I've got speed and twice the space and 3 times the band width.

Is this right 12,000GB for bandwidth... that MUST be a misprint :)))
I am going to load all my training videos up :p

Good luck to DVH - I hope they do good

As long they keep growing steadily and keep a positive cashflow, we all should be winners.

Thank you for choosing DVH for your business.
Looking forward to making this the best hosting experience for your websites!

It will be great if you can share your feedback on what you liked at DVH (e.g. page load speeds, effects of pre-configured optimizations on performance of your drupal website and similar experiences)

Your post was very encouraging and motivating to read. Thank you!

Regards,
Steve

I should have known better & toned down my comments.
On reflection sounded to hypey for Drupalers!
Sometimes I do get to excited!

Yes, you should be wary of false posts etc...
It happens all the time!

-----------
To share our experience...so far...

To have problems with a web host is not unusual... the sign of a good host is to see what they do about it.

I work with my partner Hint and he loaded Memberspeed to test it out.
Memberspeed is a "CMS" for web marketers... if you think Drupal is difficult MS will leave you in tears.
Launched last summer it is only now it is presentable! It's on v2.01

The first problem was that we could not FTP properly... shock!
We could not overwrite existing files... submitted a ticket... solved... by Amit.

Next uploading large files(50mb) via web page were being timed out... Amit increased the Input time to 1800 (30mins).... solved by Amit.

Next, downloading the same large file via user web page were being 'choked' and appeared as 228kb... submit ticket ... solved by Amit...by optimised settings to suit MS.

To be frank, I am impressed...by the speed of response. I know a lot of people would have been already raging at some time so basic that setting for FTP was not set up.

Fact is nothing really phazes me. Recently, I had an electrical inspection of my house, it was found the house builder had not correctly wired up the fuse box and the electrics were arcing and had melted the wires & charred the insides.. a potential fire hazard that could have resulted in me and wife and kids going up in smoke... I am going to started a web site so people can name and shame incompetent house builders...(this was the original reason I was here checking out Drupal !)

We have a Hostgator reseller account, php upload = 10MB (DVH = 100MB) & same problem with downloading large files, the best we could download was about 18MB... submitted ticket... they suggested upgrading to a dedicated server, @ $174 per month !!

I am sure all you guys have too, seen ridiculous claims... it was just by chance I checked out the post on DVH.
The claims were so amazing.. I just had to see ... Yes I am one of those people, even if it is crap I would buy it just to find out what the gimmick is...

I came to download Drupal and ended up with a new hosting account.

Yes the page load speeds are noticeable quicker... sorry it not very scientific, I am sure someone will carry out controlled tests!

===

I agree with that DVH should have it own forum for support issues etc...

BUT it is testament to Drupal forum that people would want to go out of their way to praise a company.

I think it is because there are so many cons, rip offs, disappointments, broken promises that anything that lives up to some of the hype we
would want to sing its praises. Most of us are optimists.

They have a lot to live up to.
Unfortunately, the statistics are against them!
Someone will blast them out for whatever reason.
Sorry Steve... it all part of life.
If you can please most of the people most of the time then you are winning.

For every company there is a 'Sucks' forum... paypal sucks hostgator sucks, etc sucks....
Well I am going to setup one to for irresponsible electricans, plumbers, and house builders that don't do proper inspections... now this is about life and death.... any suggestions for a domain name ?

Just my thought for the day....

I've been reading so far and I'm thinking of switching to DVH from Dreamhost.
Just a quick question:
Do you have a limit of number of web sites on one server?
It looks like you only have 3 servers there.

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi CelticSoul,

Thank you for the question.

1. Yes, we do have strict self imposed limit on the number of accounts that we sell on each server, so that DVH servers provide the maximum speed and performance. Infact, we have made the process transparent and display the remaining slots on our public site's order page e.g. "Worlds Best Hosting Package (Super Monster Servers) (9 Available) - "

2. The 3 rows that you see on the DVH serverstatus page are 'representative' average load/status for each server type/location.

I would be happy to answer more queries. Thank you for considering DVH for your business requirements.

Steve

Do you support ffmpeg on your servers?

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi southpaw,

We do not support ffmpeg on the DVH servers as of today. There are plans to support FFMPEG on separate exclusive servers from March onwards.

Steve, thanks for your reply.
But the number of accounts per server does not necessary mean number of site per server. Your offer is really tempting but I wont buy until you make this clear.
Thank you.

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

hi celticsoul,

thank you for the question.
you are right that number of accounts per server does not necessary mean number of site per server, and more so if a few of them are high traffic sites. Still, it provides a statistical base of ascertaining with a degree of probability. But even if, this method becomes inefficient we have a solid Plan B as well. We monitor the server loads 24 hours a day. Especially the Mysql performance, and rearrange accounts on servers so that the servers take on uniform loads. For that purpose we have even invested in Portable IPs. These IP Addresses may be moved between servers on the same VLAN for High Availability, virtualization, or Clustering technologies, Allowing us to do seamless management of accounts. Hope that provides a base to our claims, since we have been able to maintain 100% uptime since November 2007 by focusing on these specifics.

Steve

Hi ahmed,

We suffered a massive DDOS attack today, around 45 minutes back.

The DNS Server is down at the moment, the DVH staff is working to resolve the issue.
Will post an update as soon as it is up and running.

Steve

Hi Steve

I guess this happens to popular hosts.
It happened to Discount Asp.net too sometime back so I understand your situation.

Thanks for the quick response.
Ahmed

Can you please also send an email when things are restored? Thanks!

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

hi Cklester,

Good news! The DNS server is up and running now.

Thank you for the patience! We will send a group mail to all subscribers.

Also, in our investigations, we are very near finding the main IP block and location of the possible DDOS origin.
Rest assured, we will disclose them, as soon as we have got solid proof.

Thank you all. DVH is back up and running at 100% speeds now. Another Lesson Learnt today..

Steve

OK, DVH, you've written on your website (post date 1st March 2008): -

The DVH hosted sites have experienced 100% uptime since November 2007 and the drupal webmasters are loving it!

If your servers were attacked and the DNS server was down, how can you have 100% uptime since November 2007?

nainainai’s picture

wow! i miss out the 75% discount chance

DrupalValueHosting’s picture

Hi nainanai,

ah! we ran this promotion for almost 11 days :)

We still have a perpetual/recurring 50% discount running for the next few days. The coupon code is: HalfPriceMonster50p
At $20/month this will easily beat any available VPS or even dedicated servers in terms of screaming fast performance!
And this is a reseller account with free access to WHM, so you can host many different paid clients under your account as well.
most people are infact earning a profit out of this hosting package :)

We plan to continue this 50% discount till the Drupalcon Boston 2006 coming up.

Regards,
Steve

This shows up as a one time discount, not a recurring discount. Which is correct?

Edit - It was working. I just need to learn to read the instructions. Thanks. Looking forward to using your service.

nainainai’s picture

i would love to get it but im not the need for that at the moment, i'll get it when my visitors overload my site lol. i just hope there will be some discount left.

On your Worlds Best Hosting Package (Super Monster Servers) ! It's bad!!!!
My site not working! Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

EgorfromMurmansk’s picture

I have Worlds Best Hosting Package (Super Monster Servers) on other site. This is unbearable! My site is not running again. What's happening? Every day there is an error: "Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. "

We are investing big money in this site and trust you. How long will it last?
Where the answers? Where the answers?!

I run 3 sites right now, 2 blogs (Wordpress and Blogger) and a drupal based site. All on free hosts, and am currently looking to migrate them to paid hosting. I'm interested in hearing more about what you can do for me DVH, please email me @ lookingforhosting silvanov (dot) com. Thanks, and if anyone else is already using this hosting and would like to give some feedback, feel free to email me as well.

JohnForsythe’s picture

i won't rehash the entire painful saga here, most of the details can be found in their other thread (which is now locked).
