It seems that a lot of what is being discussed about DD2 is a rehash of DD1, in that we have agreed that we need everything to be standardised etc in order to make lessons (teaching them and learning from them) workable.
It does occur to me though, that this is also an opportunity to make something more of the project that just this rehash.
Hence I'm thinking that investing some time in introducing membership features would be of some use.
For example:
- social bookmarking to keep up with who knows what about what. No more googling thru nonsense for views argument handling code snippets.
- Newsletters for each dojo session with synopsis of links to relevant stuff.
- Membership would add quantifiable information tracking and gathering facilities to the site, making it easier to obtain monies if and when necessary.
There's probably a dozen other things that could be added on the back of this. The point is, while people start to use the dojo, why not have them on board as members to start with, to avoid playing catch-up later.
my two cents...

gusaus CreditAttribution: gusaus commentedThink some sort of newsletter/zine element would be a great way to showcase Drupal and the community (along with the learning materials, interactive workshops, etc.).
Some examples:
Possibly we could work with the folks who are writing the Drupal Newsletter (http://groups.drupal.org/node/4988)?

trevortwining CreditAttribution: trevortwining commentedI like these general directions, and would be happy to join my recent efforts in the newsletter into something more dojo-oriented. I think that the dojo might be a more nurturing home for the newsletter in the long-term anyway. Again, the problem there isn't getting the material, it's just assembling and cleaning.
I really like the idea about the drupal tricks and tips because of how easy it is to start showing stuff like that on the site via views (random blocks, etc.)
I think the spotlight might find a better home on d.o. unless the focus is different.

NikLP CreditAttribution: NikLP commentedI think that depends on what the scope of this project becomes. I would imagine that this will become clearer over the next week or so, and certainly after the coffee talk.
At a guess, I'd plump for Bio; I just played with it a couple weeks ago, and paired with cck_field_perms, you can do loads with it, really easily.

add1sun CreditAttribution: add1sun commentedI feel like the discussion in #2 is a bit OT for this issue, which is really more about the questions around should we have user accounts on dd.com and why. I've made the newsletter/zine a different issue and copied the relevant info over: http://drupal.org/node/206791

NikLP CreditAttribution: NikLP commentedYeah, to be fair, the features that I outlined in #1 are really only there as qualifiers for the overall issue. Each of those features that is worthy of another issue has already got one. Gotta love Gus, tho - ever the ideas man :)
