Think some sort of newsletter/zine element would be a great way to showcase Drupal and the community (along with the learning materials, interactive workshops, etc.).

Some examples:

* Key summary of drupal development
* Feature case studies and tutorials
* Tips and tricks
* Spotlight on individuals/organizations within the community
* Dojo success stories
* Reviews of products (aka - software / IDE's / hosting companies)
* Upcoming Drupal events

Possibly we could work with the folks who are writing the Drupal Newsletter (http://groups.drupal.org/node/4988)?

I like these general directions, and would be happy to join my recent efforts in the newsletter into something more dojo-oriented. I think that the dojo might be a more nurturing home for the newsletter in the long-term anyway. Again, the problem there isn't getting the material, it's just assembling and cleaning.

I really like the idea about the drupal tricks and tips because of how easy it is to start showing stuff like that on the site via views (random blocks, etc.)

I think the spotlight might find a better home on d.o. unless the focus is different.

I think helping out with the Newsletter would be a great thing but I don't really see this as a "Dojo" thing. It seems to me like that should stay on d.o and we can help by adding more of the dojo-esque kind of materials to it (some of the items in that list don't seem Dojo to me, but more wider Drupal community.)

It depends what the latest definition of 'the dojo' is. Not just the site, but what are we trying to learn and accomplish here. If the scope remains a 'coding/theming' centric dojo, then this type of thing wouldn't really fit. If the dojo is also a place to learn about/keep tabs on the drupal community (what are the 'hot topic' issues, latest 'calls for action', and even things like how to be a model citizen, or trends/best practices in drupal biz and consulting), then this would be a way to do it. The big issue that keeps coming up (in this and other...uhh...issues) is that we don't want to do anything to fragment/take away from the proper channels (d.o. - g.d.o.) - The larger issue probably should be broken out into a 'dojo code of ethics/rules of the road' type discussion, but for what we're talking about here, I think it's quite simple. If we can play a role in spotlighting/keeping track of/sifting thru the immense amount of material that's found in the proper channels, that would have a great deal of value (ever think why the lullabot postcasts are very popular?). And we're not locking the info in - people can still get the content via email subscription, rss, etc. - any unique 'dojo' content can be made available on the 'planet - http://drupal.org/planet '. We have a lot more flexibility to showcase/spotlight what's already out there - we also have the ability to provide a bit more 'sizzle' to the presentation.

Maybe something as simple as a reminder of the upcoming Dojo lesson - topic of discussion, length of session, prerequisites ...

PS. My first post - hopefully I did this properly.

[14:38] or we can do this as a dojo blog or whatever
[14:38] doesn't need to be a newsletter
[14:39] ok, any other votes?
[14:39] right - but the one of the folks who is writing the drupal newsletter supports this
[14:39] blog might be an idea - then we can RSS that, which is a substitute

I'd like to see reports from people who find the dojo interesting and useful, statistics of how many people visit the dojo, the members, and the audience.

Point me in the right direction if you can please.

Also, I think its a bit confusing to post on this thread, as you can see what the person before me created! Maybe we should clean that up some..

hal2,

This is not the right place for this request, which is why it is confusing. Please post this request on the Dojo groups.drupal.org page. This issue queue is for tasks associated with getting the Dojo infra setup.

Reopening this for a bit more evaluation - a similar discussion is taking place for the redesign of d.o. - http://groups.drupal.org/node/15332

This feature is a 'must have' as it's increasingly difficult to keep track of the goings on of the community. Implementing this feature should be quite simple as it's essentially functionality as the learning repository http://drupal.org/node/338805
