Hi,

we're using simplenews for sending out newsletters to 700+ members and are quite fine with it

however with this amount of mail addresses we always have 40-50 bounces/failures in the batch
and would need to a) resend this b) prompt the user for a new email or c) do anything else useful

How do you others handle this?

thanks,
Christoph

I've implemented such bounces handling feature for simplenews on one of my sites. can contribute it if there is interest.

Yeah, could you guys NOT close and maybe leave one of these open to discuss?
There are probably people out there that can help us hack some sort of suitable bounce handling. Since you guys don't feel up to doing it, I don't see the harm in letting other people help come up with a solution.

Does anyone know of a way to at least hide bouncing? Noreply?

A support request older than a few days usually gets no more response. The issue queue is long and I therefore tidy it up from time to time.

If you believe this issue should not be closed, feel free to re-open it.

Shouldn't the status for this type of request be set to "by design" or "won't fix" rather than "closed"? Any new requests for this feature can just be directed back to this (or an earlier) thread?

I would guess that it shouldn't just be closed because when the issue hasn't been resolved as it gives a distorted view of the status of the module? I'd be happy for a more experienced user/admin to confirm this.

I don't mind leaving a support questions open if there is any discussion going on or any discussion can be expected. But practice is that after a few day's there is hardly any response on any of the support issues apart from the maintainer.

"by design" and "won't fix" are not appropriate here since it is a support issue and not a bug. This issue is not (yet) a feature request, it is a support request.

But back to the subject. Christoph C. Cemper already got one response on the forum (http://drupal.org/node/206262).
The Email newsletter module uses the Bounced Email module to handle bounces.
Simplenews has currently no facilities to handle bounces.

I am very interested Scor! Please tell how it works and post whatever is necessary, or mail it to me. Thanks in advance!

The one current response states:

"The way we handle it at the moment is using a dedicated newsletter email address for the FROM field which means spending a half an hour after sending an email to check the bounce backs."

This might work for my needs. However, my 'dedicated newsletter email address for the FROM field' doesn't receive any bounce backs. Is simplenews meant to send bounce backs to the address in the FROM field?

I'd also like to see the code scor referenced, though it doesn't seem like it's going to be posted...

Thanks.
