I have a Date field with granularity day, month, year, hour, minute checked.
But I only need the day, month and year as a mandatory field.

Any suggestions to solve this problem?

There are numerous duplicate or similar issues, the work is going on at http://drupal.org/node/145205. This won't happen in the 5.1 version, it will happen in the 5.2 version.
