Issue Summary

Hi folks,

Back when I first wrote this module, it was to "scratch an itch", so to speak. I wanted a way to back up different Drupal installations of mine, and this module met that need. I also decided to upload that module here so I could share it with others who also might find it useful. But, something totally crazy happened: lots of people started to use it.

It was only a matter of time before the bug reports rolled in. Since backup relies on external programs such as tar and mysqldump, many of these were edge cases found in webhosting environments that I did not have access to for troubleshooting. I never anticipated this when I released this module, and one look at the bug reports will show the obvious: I just don't have the spare time to handle all of these.

To that end, I am looking for a new maintainer for this module. The ideal maintainer would have a strong PHP and Linux/UNIX background, understand CVS and its tagging system, and be familiar with the inner workings of Drupal, especially Drupal 6, which this module needs to be ported to.

If you're interested, please browse the outstanding bugs and outstanding support requests to see if you might be interested in taking on those kind of responsibilities. If you are, please leave a comment on this issue and we'll talk. :-)

Thanks for reading,

-- Doug

any news?

I just found this module because I was looking for exactly this type of functionality for D5 and D6. Obviously, the fact that it's not available for D6 yet has me motivated. I currently have the bandwidth to take this on, and would love to contribute in this way.

Any news on movement towards a 6.x version of this module?

What about joining forces (which is to say abandoning this module) in favor of "Backup and Migrate" module - http://drupal.org/project/backup_migrate

#5

I think backup_migrate lacks the ability to backup the file system.

#6

Yeah, it would be nice to have this great module ported to Drupal6!

Hope someone interested take it and port it!

#7

I'm interested in maintaining this module. If no one else has started I'll port it to Drupal 6.

It would be cool if we can add the ability to upload the backup to AWS S3 as well. :)

@mohanjith - I decided not to work on this module in the end. Instead I used the http://drupal.org/project/backup_migrate module and have also used the Demo module http://drupal.org/project/demo - Demo is slightly different in purpose but includes a "backup" and "restore" capability...

I guess it's time to close this ticket. :)

How about a slightly more constructive solution.

This module has been abandoned. If you need it and want to upgrade it you can become the maintainer. If you are a user of this module and need another solution see:

http://drupal.org/project/backup_migrate
http://drupal.org/project/demo
http://drupal.org/project/fbu
http://drupal.org/project/backup_client_server

Not all of those are very well maintained, but...
