We're planning our site navigation with it, so it would be good to know.

I don't know what the maintainer is intending, I had a look at the code myself with the intention of getting it to work with D6, but found that the patch to menu.inc that D5 requires will not apply to D6 as is, and a look through the code made me realise that menu.inc in D6 is very different and I could not identify the right place to insert the patch. I'm not as yet running D6 in production or development myself.
Perhaps a request to the webmasters or whoever the maintainer might be would be in order. The name in the current D6 menu.inc is 'goba', that's the person who committed the latest changes (9 April)
It is certainly a very useful module.
