http://drupal.org/project/shoutbox does have one in development, but it is a very simple module
http://drupal.org/project/chatblock no, and not very alive
http://drupal.org/project/chat dead
http://drupal.org/project/chatbox dead

There are some IRC-based ones, not sure if they qualify for you but I like IRC better
http://drupal.org/project/mibbit_irc does have a 6.x version
http://drupal.org/project/phpfreechat not yet

Some people embed Google Talk or Meebo

There is also http://drupal.org/project/tribune (irc-like, but without irc servers)

http://drupal.org/project/chatroom has a version 6 available now... but it's a little buggy. Patches are being posted and it seems to be improving.

I like it as it's simple and easy to implement... but like I say it needs a bit of work to get it to release level (but then that's what we're here for :)

I'm searching for a chat modul with features like dice roll (http://drupal.org/project/jsdice) or a log/history view for the chat session.

I know https://blueimp.net/ajax/ as a nice and good chat solution, but it isn't integrated in Drupal (6). So I'm searching for a integrated solution for my site.

Maybe a good solution could be a XMPP web chat, but is it possible to add dice feature to a xmpp server? An other way could be the module http://drupal.org/project/chatroom. But I don't know how new features can added to chatroom? Has chatroom a plugin interface for extra features (like smilies, dice feature,...)?

I would love something along the lines of the Facebook chat feature which is very handy, sitting at the bottom of the page.

There are some solutions (as mentioned at the top of this issue) for chat rooms, but what it seems we're looking for is a one-on-one chat solution.

The solution for this, i think, is using a jabber server (or similiar) and some open source client to integrate back into drupal. From what i know - that's the way to do it today. There are some other chat servers - but seems that jabber/ejabber would be the best bet.

How to make it 'facebook-style' (sitting on the bottom, waiting for a msg, then popping up) - that's currently beyond me.

For jabber solutions there have been a number of xmpp modules. The only one with active development as far as I know is http://drupal.org/project/xmppframework.

xmppframework can be used by http://drupal.org/project/notifications and http://drupal.org/project/messaging

@rgracia and @Shahar: You may find some post here on how to create facebook like chat panel either with meebo or tribune.module exactly what you need.

I've been happily using "Chat Room" project for a while now

Nice that someone decided to build something for Drupal...

If you're looking for a 6X ready Chat system here are the ones I personally would currently consider

Am quite happy with Chat Room though so I'll probably stick with that

I integrated DrupalChat module its working perfectly fine.. but its not having chat room functionality like ChatRoom. & i checked ChatRoom module. its having both Chat & chatroom. but it comes in content body. i want it in facebook style or Drupalchat style.
is Chat room possible in DrupalChat module?
Or is it posible to use ChatRoom chat in tray or appbar?

Why not use 123 Web Messenger(http://www.123webmessenger.com), it has a facebook like bar, the instant messenger friend list will dock at bottom of users browsers, that's exactly what every webmaster is looking for.
