Hi,

I have been unable to find any more info on what the costs of using your service would be after the free 10GB.

Please could you clarify this as I am wanting to use the module on a large site I am currently planning but would like a clear indication of the costs that would follow the free period of use.

Thanks
Gregg

Hi Gregg,

We have a wide range of packages, depending on the amount of traffic and bandwidth that you expect to see. Since you say that this is a large site, I will contact you offline to discuss creating a custom package for you.

This is an unnecessarily vague response and doesn't fairly answer the question for prospective users. Can you please provide some approximate values at various service levels.

I want to know the answer to this topic too.. Is there any update?

Guys - we have a range of packages that are based on expected bandwidth and other criteria - so in order to get a quote with the most suitable package for your site, you need to speak with someone from our sales team. The best way to get a fast answer is to fill out this form and someone will contact you: http://corp.kaltura.com/about/contact

I agree with jeesZ.

It looks like you have a good module and service here. I would like to use it on an upcoming project. I will call your sales department, but I really don't appreciate that I must do so. I could get an even faster answer if you would post your prices. Please do so, and stop forcing people to contact sales.

Thank you.

@Kaltura: About the Kaltura Saas platform I suggest adding javascript calculator to your website. So users could type in their amount of traffic and bandwidth. Hit a calculate button. Then get an automated quote.

@all: About Kaltura cost. There are two versions of Kaltura. The paid one or the free one.

  1. Paid 'Kaltura Saas platform'. Here you pay for using Kaltura hosted services and for their CDN services. That's the one where Kaltura covers all hosting and streaming costs for FREE up to 10GB. Then you have to pay if you want to use more than 10GB.
  2. 100% free 'Kaltura Community Edition (CE)'. Here you do not pay Kaltura because you're using your own hosted services and CDN services. Read more at

I found Kaltura and tried the trial. It's apparently a wonderful product from what I played with. However, there is just something about the company demeanor in general that I can't put my finger on, except to say that Im not sure I trust them. Trust is a funny thing to talk about when referring to an inanimate entity. But I wish I could feel just a tiny bit more secure about them as my gut feeling.

When I called them it was like pulling hen's teeth to get info on pricing, which is definitely a big piece of my gut reaction. Eventually (and this was in January 2011) I got an answer that

  • "base level package for our SaaS offering at Kaltura is $499/month. This comes with 250GB of bandwidth per month.
It also comes with video management; playlists; player templates; player design; social sharing; delivery; transcoding; adaptive bitrate streaming; and advertising with VAST and Tremor Media.
Mobile Delivery to iphones and other mobile devices is an add-on feature for $250/month."

Obviously your mileage will vary. However, I must say that though I spent a very thorough conversation & followup with the sales person, yet the ongoing commuications made it seem clear that he was just sending me a boiler plate response. He had a pretty abrasive phone manner. I explained the use-case very thoroughly and the salesmans responses were just totally off base. I'll give the benefit of doubt and say he is probably knowledgable but perhaps not a good listener/communicator.

Am not really sure why they make such a big deal about forcing people to call them since it didnt seem to play into the quote. Its just a Saas, you'd think thhe were guarding the crown jewels or something.

There is also an issue with one of their early releases which was communicating with the Kaltura server covertly (or something along those lines I dont remember all the details anymore) . It wasnt a virus or anything, but it wasnt really in the spirit of open-source either. They got called out for it by community members on Drupal.org, after which they apologized and remedied the issue. I really keep looking wistfully at their product, but I am leery of what their customer service & tech support would be like, due to the first impressions I received during the pre-sales process.

berkberry, I was just about to write that this is a closed issue, but then I realized it has not yet been addressed. Moving it to active and current.

This is an integration module, and it's sponsored by Kaltura but maintained by drupal.org contributors (not Kaltura staff). IMO the question asked is currently answered in #9, so this can be closed.

I do appreciate that if a vendor's pricing is not visible on their website, some of the enquiries will wind up over here at Drupal.org. I don't think that the pricing info is appropriate content on d.o, because that's not really the place for it. Consider Mollom, Brightcove, Mailchimp, Janrain Engage - these are all modules which integrate a paid external service, and in all cases the pricing information is not found (or expected) on the project page. Drupal.org should not be used to advertise commercial services or rates.

Please direct enquiries about Kaltura SaaS to http://corp.kaltura.com/
