The popup that appears does not allow me to browse my machine for files so that I can look for the image or the flash that I would like to embed. I know it's a setting in some config file but which file and which setting for flash and images?

http://drupal.org/node/478036 the setting is in admin/settings/fckeditor and then the File browser settings.

You will need to download and install the IMCE module here http://drupal.org/project/imce

At first I was having major trouble figuring out how to get IMCE to browse my machine. Every time I clicked the link I would just get "Browse Server".

I finally played around with the resulting window and sure enough there is an "Upload" link at the top. So you just click that and then click "send to FCK Editor" and you are in business! It's kind of a sucky interface but it works and that's all I care about for now. Hopefully Drupal will incorporate something better than this into core.

But hopefully this helps some who are confused about this issue like I was.
