This does not create something like - http://www.cirm.ca.gov/ out of the box.
If you are going to make these claims then put in some documentation to get people to a finish like http://www.cirm.ca.gov/
otherwise don't say it's "out of the box". Out of the box it does nothing of value to anyone.
Drupal.org should make people learn how to teach others before letting them contrib modules. It's ridiculous how bad this community is at teaching. No wonder all the help vampires keep appearing throughout the forums!

bkmatwa commentedTotally agree with you..."out of the box" is so over stated. Some type of documentation would have been nice to have to explain how to create the side-linking thumbnails or create the overlay on top of the main slide image.
This module needs some work in the documentation department.

OneTwoTait commentedThis is true, there's no documentation and there's a whole bunch of other modules that need to be installed for Featured Content Slider to work.
drupjab commentedSoooo, then how do I get it to work? Have installed all modules, uploaded images, looking through various parts of the configuration for this module. I don't see anything usable when I create one of the new (default) content types, I don't see anything in the block. Can someone get me started? Thanks.

itserich commentedThis site looks broken, at least the slider.
http://www.cirm.ca.gov/
I am just starting to try and install and the ReadMe is out of date.
This line is not accurate: 3. Enter the content type 'featured' in the source for block 1
I want to find one slider that handles text and appears clean.

madaxe commentedI used views showcase and found it very easy to use and customised easily through CSS

Thanks for the tip.

Don't know how I missed Views Showcase but it looks good. The text type is opaque but hopefully that is a css problem.
Do you know whether these sliders take up resources? My site seems to slow down when I install them but I am not good at figuring out the cause of things like that, could be random. I have a lot of modules but do have a vps.
This slider resembles the one on The Economist front page.
Edit Having trouble getting the teaser displayed for the current node image. Any advice please check the issue queue. Thanks. http://drupal.org/node/985908

GFB commentedthanks - showcase is much easier in views. I used showcase on www.digitalmotioncomics.com and i think it looks good and was pretty easy to set up with imagecache, views and CSS.

You should post that in the drupal showcase, there are so many people having trouble with sliders and showcases
i have no idea how you did that!
droomagentur commentedsorry but this whole thing looks like a promotion operation for the company and its sites, since even after intensive research I honestly don't think that thing is going to work without rewriting code...

itserich commentedThe only slideshow / slider I have found which works right all the time is
http://drupal.org/project/views_slideshow
It is well used and has a lot of powerful features. I spent a lot of time looking at alternatives.
