Homebox and Drupal Commons

Why would you want a homebox inside a panel?

You can just do this manually. That's actually something we've experimented with Commons already. Homebox might make it's way into the distribution soon. Just create a new homebox and plugin the same blocks that the panel is using. If you need any more help, open this one back up.

Attached the different setting especialy the one to make OG works with homebox and with profile. We created an homebox for each of them but no idea what works in conjuction with profile and OG and what doesn't work. How should we deal about with context ?

Let's start by telling me exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish and we'll take it from there.

Homebox_og can provide two things for groups. You can either override the group homepage with a homebox, which will disable the Panel that currently provides Commons with a group homepage. Or, you could have homebox_og provide a tab on the group homepage for a separate homebox.

A homebox can also be placed on a user's profile as a tab. User's can only view their own homebox, because if they were viewing someone else's, there own settings would load and it would be confusing.

I have an instance of Commons running with the Dashboard replaced by Homebox and it looks great. That'll most likely be included in a future release.

It would be nice if you could export a homebox used by a group.

Is the homebox based on group or user (each user having there own group dashboard for each of there group or for all there groups or could it be common to all the users of a group ? The result can be quite different an complex to choose from.

We tried to tried to create a "welcome page" see attached.
It's an attempt of helping user choose what they would use of common.
Sadely there is no permission for non admin to export a homebox layout

As of now, homebox pages are always rendered based on the user's settings. I don't have a group homebox set up at the moment. You can look at the panel used to display Commons group homepages and just use the blocks that it uses. You might need to check the views and/or panels arguments that get passed into the blocks generated by views. Some alterations might be required. Let me know what happens..

I did it pretty easily... all I did was create a homebox and add the same blocks as what's currently on Common's dashboard (panel). The I removed the commons panel entirely and set the URL of the homebox to "dashboard." That's all it takes.

Oh, and for some reason my jQuery UI library was missing... just downloaded it.
