I would like to build an event listing site where each event host can create their own events and sell tickets to them - the proceeds being automatically split between myself and the host.

I've had a quick look at Marketplace for Ubercart and Commerce but neither seem ready to go.

Can anyone think of another way of doing this?

I don't know of any general ecommerce platform that would make it possible to build what you want without any coding, not magento, and not anything else I know of, not without extensive coding. Most other alternatives also involve licensing fees in the $100,000.00 range too, and most are gear specifically toward building "store" oriented websites, and not completely commerce related web application websites.

The new Drupal Commerce 2.x for Drupal 8 is coming along, but implementing what you want is a multi-person year project timeline that likely involves building some custom modules.
