The IXP Program connects talented newcomers with Drupal organizations, creating pathways for both professional growth and community sustainability. By incentivizing companies to hire and mentor inexperienced developers, we're addressing one of our community's biggest challenges – the gap between learning Drupal and landing that crucial first job.
Inspired by traditional apprenticeship models that have built skilled trades for generations, the IXP provides structured support, including at least one hour of mentorship for every ten hours worked. During the minimum 160-hour engagement, participants gain hands-on experience while organizations benefit from fresh perspectives and developing talent.
Organizations that participate receive 250 contribution credits (valued at approximately $25,000) for each successfully completed IXP engagement, while also strengthening the talent pipeline that sustains our ecosystem. Far more than goodwill alone, this program is an investment in Drupal's future and your organization's growth.
For newcomers, the IXP offers paid work experience – a genuine opportunity to earn while you learn. While organizations have flexibility to determine employment terms, all IXP positions must be paid. You'll gradually master development best practices, version control, team collaboration, and the technical skills needed to advance your Drupal career.
Whether you're a newcomer seeking your first Drupal opportunity, an organization looking to grow the talent pool while earning substantial contribution credits, or a community member wanting to support the next generation of Drupal talent, the IXP offers a path forward that benefits everyone involved.
