The Drupal.org testing profile lists this module as a dependency. However, you can't proceed past the second screen because you get the error:

SimpleTest could not be installed. The required core patch must be applied. See the included INSTALL.txt. (Currently using SimpleTest code addition Not found)

The patch is applied (by drush make) so I investigated further.

The $patch_installed check in simpletest_requirements() looks like this:

  $patch_installed = isset($GLOBALS['simpletest_installed']);

However, this variable isn't defined until DRUPAL_BOOTSTRAP_DATABASE. So this will always fail during install.php.

Not sure what can be done about this, but figured I'd log a bug about it.

Can you test the following patch?

The attached patch works for me. Also including an interdiff between the old and new versions of D6-core-simpletest.patch.

See http://drupal.org/node/890440#comment-4555192 where I'm switching to a versioned constant defined in bootstrap.inc so that it will help us let people know when they need to re-patch.
