Update Based on Poll

We put the poll up for 24 hours after there was plenty of discussion around 4 time-slots we thought would be good. Each date range could accept a score of 1-4. We had 21 responses. The numbers are reported below.

July 18-20 July 25-27 Aug 1-3 Aug 8-10
48 points 54 points 68 points 59 points

Based on this response, I think that we should focus on August 1-3 with the backup being August 8-10. I'm setting this to RTBC. Next steps are to find out availability for our two potential locations.

Original Post

This is very directly tied to the location, which we haven't decided yet. If we have a super-strong reason to prefer particular dates, that might actually determine the location, so this seems worth discussing now.

Here's a list of relevant dates we probably want to avoid, or at least be aware of:

Some potentially fun dates:

  • August 1,2,3
  • August 8,9,10

I think we should do it no earlier than the end of July.

Drupalcamp Wisconsin is July 26-27. I'm fairly sure it isn't much of a competitor for us.

How about July 19th - 20 or 26th - 27th as a target. July 18th or July 25th would be the training day.

I feel pretty strongly that we should not do it within a month of DrupalCon, or out of state attendance will be severely decreased. Originally we were doing it in June, partially because DrupalCon was happening in March at that point. I think with the shift in DrupalCon dates over the year we should shoot for early June (probably not realistic) or August.

uhhh... nevermind. I misread June as July for Drupalcon Austin. Ignore what I said, July sounds fine to me :)

I was also thinking somewhere around the week of July 15-19th is our best option but hesitated because it is not an ideal time in relation to other events. July seems to be the most logical month in relation to other events and happenings.

matthews’s picture

Kevin, which events conflict for the week of the 15th?

Matthew, I was specifically referring to the proximity of Drupalcon Austin. It's not a significant amount of time afterwards that we are looking at having our event. It looks the mid point between the end of Austin and the beginning of Amsterdam is roughly July27th.

I suppose, after thinking about it a bit more, I'd like to see the registration date slide closer to Amsterdam than Austin .. Maybe something like August 9th-11th? I base this on an assumption that we would see more north american traffic if it we gave drupalcon austin more time to settle.

Yeah, I'd also prefer August 9th to June 15th.

I also like the late July/early August time frame.

Side note: if we ever need to quickly poll the audience, http://doodle.com/?locale=en or a google doc might be a better way to quickly solicit/track feedback from a larger group of people. A simple vote is faster than having to formulate a comment to justify said vote, although that is highly valuable as well.

I just added two dates in august that seem good to me. If the event is in boulder, move-in is not yet set but is likely to be August 19th (first day of classes is the 26th and in fall 2013 year the move-in was 6 days before the first day of classes).

Lets vote (pending when venues are available to us).

I think we need a voting mechanism that allows people to rank dates. We'll come out with a ranking and can then ask the venue for those dates.

#13 done - whom ever already voted, please revote
