michelleCount me in for a big -1 to that slogan. I'd rather have Community Plumbing.

damien tournoud commentedI generally avoid taking part in those discussions, but I have to say I definitely agree here that this slogan is braindead.
avpadernoI must say I much prefer ; as Drupal.org should be seen as a community, that slogan sounds better. We must agree that the force point for Drupal is the community (the code is good too, indeed).
yoroy commentedBesides the hollow corp speak it also plainly sends the wrong message: Benefit (build) today - contribute (innovate) oh, well, maybe tomorrow. It's a Really Bad slogan.

drummSwitch back when done bikeshedding. Have fun.
chx commentedErm, we are powerless here and so I am not sure what more info you need or we could give.
chx commentedIn any normal situation, we would switch to "Come for the software, stay for the community." as that comes from the DA too and it's actually loved by most people.
farrissI agree that it should be replaced with "Come for the software, stay for the community."
drummCommitted and up on redesign.drupal.org

farrissMore context: that slogan was always understood to be placeholder text during the design process. It is not official. At the retreat in San Francisco, the board stumbled upon the slogan "Come for the software, stay for the community." It has received tremendous support within the Association and the community. Having achieved such a broad consensus, let's please move forward with that in place of the FPO text from the designs.

ben finklea commentedSorry to chime in on this so late.
Consider moving the slogan "Come for the software, stay for the community" to below the paragraph. And, if it's a sentence, then it should have a period at the end.
Then, add a tagline above that does a better job of telling newbies exactly what Drupal is. Something like:
"Build Better Websites...Free"
or just
"Build Better Websites"
or even
"Easily Build Powerful Websites".
Ideally, we multi-variate test that line to see which works best but that's an idea for the future.

arianek commentedJust FYI thought I should post the old thread for reference before many people start coming up with new suggestions - this was discussed extensively here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/66353 (as well as in some in-person events, such as Tiff Farriss mentioned) - it was an extremely strong vote for the "Come for the software, stay for the community."
ben finklea commentedI just want to clarify that I'm not advocating removing the "Come for the..." slogan. I rather like it.
I'm just concerned that the word "web" or "website" doesn't appear anywhere on re.d.o home page. I think it's critical messaging to newcomers that you can build a website with Drupal. Despite previous conversations, this should not be dismissed out of hand.
Again, I apologize for not being involved sooner.

c4rl commentedRemarks from comment #14 have been posted as a new issue, as they do not necessarily pertain to the original issue. Please see #895634: The word "Website" doesn't appear on the home page

Anonymous (not verified) commented"Come for the software, stay for the community." that sounds pretty cheesy
- what about "community software" .
ltwinner commentedIt's a decent tag line but it is not accurate. People don't 'stay for the community'. They stay for the software itself. The drupal community is not actually very helpful for newcomers. They have put together excellent modules and documentation but there is no real community spirit in the forums. I started out about 18 months ago and the thing I realised after several months of posting questions on the forums was that if you want to get something done in drupal 99% of the time you have to figure it out for yourself. I certainly didn't stay for the community, I stayed for the software.
I think 'Come for the software, stay for the community' gives way too much emphasis to the 'community' aspect which is not really a big part of drupal. Drupal is about excellent software, it is not about the community. People are not having general chat in the forums, all the threads are to do with queries regarding drupal, there is no community vibe present for 99% of drupal users so the slogan is just not accurate.

avpadernoConsidering that Drupal core code is created by the community, I think that without a Drupal.org community Drupal would not be what it is now.

arianek commented@ltwinner - sorry you've had a bad experience - the slogan fits for most people who have had good ones though, and i hope you don't give up on finding a friendly niche in the community!
that said, this change has already been implemented on redesign.drupal.org, and so i'm moving it back to closed. if you feel the need you can open a new issue. thx.
