Version 2.x introduces a significantly modernized implementation for Drupal 11.4+ and Drupal 12, with updated theme architecture, refined responsive layouts and improved configuration options.

A distinctive dark appearance

Black Hole takes a different visual approach from conventional light Drupal themes. Its dark surfaces, carefully placed color accents and optional decorative elements create an atmosphere especially suited to technology, photography, creative work and content-focused websites.

For a more personalized appearance, select Custom colors to adjust major interface colors, including links, text, menu backgrounds, hover states and active elements.

Black Hole also includes distinctive block decorations, with positive and negative icon variants in different sizes and a subtle accent option for block titles. These elements can be combined with themed blocks and rounded corners to create your preferred visual style.

Lightweight foundation with PureCSS

Black Hole uses PureCSS, a compact, modular CSS framework providing responsive grids and essential interface components.

PureCSS is bundled locally with the theme, eliminating the need for an external CSS service. Black Hole requires no separate base theme and uses modern JavaScript for its interactive features.

Layouts and content presentation

Black Hole provides flexible page widths, independently adjustable sidebars and numerous block regions for organizing content, navigation and supplementary information.

For compatible Views displays, choose between three presentation styles:

• Standard: A clean, traditional content listing.
• Zebra rows: Alternating dark row backgrounds for improved visual separation.
• Cards: Responsive card layouts with configurable columns and spacing.

These layouts can be configured without rebuilding your Views. Compatible Aggregator listings also support these presentation options.

Typography, icons and visual customization

Choose from five font families: Sans-serif, Montserrat, Merriweather, Open Sans and Roboto. Three font-size settings help you adjust the overall appearance of your website.

Additional options include rounded corners, themed blocks, decorative block icons and scalable SVG page icons. Optional Font Awesome integration extends the available icon presentation.

The theme includes a comprehensive example stylesheet with optional customization examples for layouts, content elements and additional interface styling.

Slideshow and multilingual websites

The integrated responsive slideshow supports up to seven configurable slides, each with an image, headline, description, alternative text and link. Choose Full-page or Half-page image presentations and control where the slideshow appears.

Black Hole includes its original black-and-white sample slideshow images, complementing the theme's distinctive dark design.

Multilingual support includes right-to-left layouts, language-specific logos, translated slideshow content and language-aware internal links.

Modernized for Drupal 11 and 12

The 2.x series brings significant improvements to the underlying theme architecture, including modern Drupal hooks, updated Twig templates, refined forms and navigation, locally bundled PureCSS, SVG-based icons and improved responsive behavior.

Version 2.0.1 also includes security hardening, improved multilingual URL handling and additional compatibility and bug fixes.

Compatibility: Drupal 11.4+ and Drupal 12.

Upgrading from 1.x: After upgrading, rebuild Drupal caches and re-save the theme settings. Review any existing customizations and migrated settings.
