Thank you for your work @twistor! I found this module very useful. I used it with Backdrop CMS. Just few changes is needed to make it work with Backdrop.

I am willing to share this module with Backdrop community, we already have fully functional port of Feeds (https://github.com/backdrop-contrib/feeds).

If you are interested in porting this module to Backdrop and maintaining it afterward, please let me know. But If you don't have time or interest I understand that as well.
