The Field Layout module was added as an experimental module to Drupal Core 8.3. It was never promoted to stable, and was removed from Drupal 9. Field Layout is provided here as a contrib module so existing Drupal 8 sites depending on Field Layout can update to Drupal 9.
This module will be minimally maintained, so we do not recommend installing this on new sites. This should be viewed as a way to facilitate easier updates from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 by sites using Field Layout. It is recommended that all Drupal 9 sites using this module find an alternative as soon as possible. While this module will work with Drupal 9.0.0, compatibility with later versions of Drupal 9 can't be guaranteed.

Before installing this module, note that most of Field Layout's display functionality is now available in Core's Layout Builder module. When Layout Builder is enabled, the install process includes converting field layout displays to Layout Builder ones.
