LocalGov Consultations gives councils a dedicated consultation content type and a searchable directory within LocalGov Drupal. Consultation editors can explain proposals, provide supporting information, offer a route to respond, and publish results in one place.

Help residents find consultations

The consultation directory includes:

• Keyword search by consultation title.
• Filters for category and consultation status.
• Responsive consultation tiles with images and summaries.
• Pagination for browsing larger collections.

Create informative consultation pages

Bring together the information residents need to understand a proposal and take part:

• A title, short summary and rich-text body.
• Banner and teaser images.
• Location information.
• Supporting documents from the media library.
• Department and service contact details.
• Links to surveys, further information and other response routes.

A responsive layout presents the main content alongside dates, status, contacts, documents and timeline information.

Manage dates and progress

Track each consultation through four stages: Upcoming, Open, Closed and Concluded.

Published consultations automatically move from Upcoming to Open when their start date is reached, and from Open to Closed after their end date. These updates run through Drupal cron and can also be triggered using Drush.

Editors can add timeline milestones with titles, dates, summaries and completion indicators to explain the consultation’s key stages.

Publish consultation outcomes

Close the feedback loop with a “You said, We did” results section containing a summary and a link to further information.

When a consultation is marked Concluded, residents see the results first and can switch to a separate Consultation details tab to review the original proposal.

Optional submodules

Webform integration

Add a Drupal Webform directly to a consultation page so residents can respond alongside the proposal. Editors select the form through the consultation editing interface.

Email subscriptions

Allow residents to subscribe to an individual consultation or to updates across all consultations.

The notification submodule provides subscription confirmation emails, unsubscribe links, and notifications when consultations open or their dates change. Update notifications are queued for background processing.

This submodule requires Mailing List and Symfony Mailer.
