The active trail is not being displayed when the Panels Node Template is enabled and a variant is created for the content type - the css class is not visible in the markup.

Is there something extra that I need to do?

Is this just not supported for content configured like this with Panels (intentional)? (and would a new plug-in, be necessary?)

It is said to be resolved here #1248040-6: Panels content isn't affected by menu position rules but I have the same issue too.
