Observatory allows amateur astronomers to quickly build a website to log their observations and showcase their astronomical images.

Out of the box, it provides a custom observation target type with a RA/DEC coordinate field, as well as various astronomical catalogue fields (e.g: Messier, Caldwell, NGC, IC)

That means you can set up planets, clusters and galaxies for repeat observation without having to enter their coordinates and catalog numbers each time.

Observations and targets are exposed to Views, which means you can easily create lists and galleries.

This distribution is based on the standard Drupal install, so your site will be preconfigured with the normal content types for pages, news and blogs.

Configuration

Before you can start entering observation data, you should create some observation target types for your own use (e.g: Planet, Cluster, Nebula, Galaxy). None are (currently) included by default.

After adding the observation target types, you can create observation targets of all the types you have created.

When you create a new observation, start typing in the target field and Drupal will find a matching observation target.
