This is a Drupal 8 module that provides a separate field type for outputting images using the HTML <picture> element. The core Responsive Image module utilizes a regular image field and then uses Image styles to automatically generate differently sized images for use in the <picture> element. In contrast, this module allows to upload a separate image for each breakpoint defined on your site. It can be useful when more fine-grained control over the specific images that will be used for each breakpoint is needed that cannot be satisfied by the Image style system.
It could be backported to Drupal 7 but this is currently not planned.
