Hi,
I had a requirement to have an option of sorting a list of documents (view of content) with the help of their popularity on social media sites. For example, he wished to be able to sort some documents on basis of the number of facebook likes, comments, and shares; ascending or descending. I had to write a views plugin for the same. At the time I tried searching for any available solution but couldn't find this module. So, I created one on my own (currently in sandbox)

Project link : https://drupal.org/sandbox/ajgit/2080003

Only when the project was under review in "project applications" queue (#2084467: [D7] Social Stats with views and panels integration) did I get to know about this module. I would like to help with maintaining the module by working on existing issues. Also, would create another branch for the approach I've taken (cron based), and actively maintain it as well.

Please let me know your views about it.

UPDATE:

The cron based solution worked well to give me the "vetted" GIT access to create full projects. The project is now hosted at : https://drupal.org/project/social_stats

My plans about this module:
- Fix the existing issues whatever I can (most have the suggestions suggested that needs review). I will commit those changes after testing.
- Add my other published module (https://drupal.org/project/social_stats) as an optional project for this module on the project page.

I have followed the instructions mentioned at https://drupal.org/node/251466, to become the maintainer of the Share Count Statictics module:
Project page : https://drupal.org/project/share_count

In addition of filling this issue two weeks ago, I contacted the module maintainer via contact tab; also tweeted to the maintainer about the issue, and received the reply:

@develkar if you read any tweets this week you'd know I'm incredibly busy this week and have limited internet access...

with no activity on the issue afterwards.

Dave Reid is a know powerhouse and quite busy. He usually appreciates helping hands. I've contacted him to get him to comment here.

Yes this was filed exactly as I was moving and very busy and was out traveling the last week. I do intend to get back to this module, but as I look at the issue queue, I see no patches that need any kind of review, only open issues, so I don't see any need for adding a maintainer. If you wanted to propose changes or a new module via a patch in the issue queue, that would be appreciated.

I've been following this thread since I had to decide for a large project between using Share Count Statistics or Social Stats, and had to go for the latter because it had more features and allowed a more finer grained control.

I'm not associated with Ajit in any way, but I did help him during the revision process and advised him that both maintainers should reach an agreement to merge both projects in a way that is beneficial for the community (foster collaboration over competiton). (See https://drupal.org/comment/7934013#comment-7934013) and because of this thread I know he has been trying to do so.

So if there are open issues (which someone has to solve even if there are no patches yet) and you seem quite a busy person, then why not work as co-maintainers, merge the two projects, or discontinue one of them in favor of the one that offers the most features?

It does't look at this point that there is any desire from either side to merge efforts or projects. I have not been able to truly evaluate or give feedback on what Ajit has proposed because I can't see how it would effect or change the Share Count Statistics module, because no patches were provided.
