There should be an ability for the user to resize the sidebar and body size as seen fit ... the "fixed-width" should not be locked at 960px.

deltatux:

Please review the theme handbook for information about customizing this theme. http://drupal.org/theme-guide/6 This is the place to learn about overriding CSS files, making a sub-theme, etc.

If you need general guidance with CSS, the W3C has a page of resources for learning. http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/learning

Specifically, the #footer-inner selector in Sky theme's style.css contains a font-size rule.

If you need more help, you really should use the resources available here: http://drupal.org/support The 'feature request' issue queue for this theme is not the place to ask for general help with CSS and theming. People in IRC or forums are often helpful!

deltatux, I would highly recommend that you use some basic manners in your issue posts. Things like "please", "thanks", and "I really appreciate that you spent hundreds of hours of your own time writing and releasing this theme for all of us to use and then taking the time out of your busy day to help me out for free."

Those things will go a long way toward receiving further help as well as possibly seeing a new release of the theme with lots of new goodies. Otherwise the maintainer might get fed up and decide she doesn't want to help anyone or release any more themes and that would be a loss for us all!

Cheers!
