In my roles first as network administrator, and now as a web architect, it seems over the years that every time we turn around, management is always asking us to stick yet another yellow box on the home page making some sort of emergency announcement.
The Yet Another Yellow Box (YAYB) module is a quick way to create a block of filtered text whose contents may be managed by users who don't have permission to manage blocks. The YAYB module provides its own permission level and simply stores its data in the variables table. The block maintainer will be able to toggle the display off and on and adjust the message. This is mostly being used to announce weather-related school closings on sites where I've been using it.
To implement this module, install it as any other module, use the blocks administration page to determine placement, and assign appropriate permissions. This module provides some rather emphatic CSS styling which may be overridden in the site's theme if desired.
